perhaps the hotel manager who facilitated the riverlanders visit, had no knowelege of the change of poker providers, this would have been made by plush group management. The deal would have been done as a corporate group package with no consideration of the individual pubs.

Because NPL is the big fish of SA poker, it will always be a target for the other providers, NPL operations must be ever vigilant as these raiders will do almost anything to capture an existing venue with solid base no matter how small the player base is.

The local players may continue to support the venue with the new provider, it realy depends on what the players level of interest is, much like my home venue almost 85% of the players play this venue only,so state, regional finals are not the prime reason for playing, so for these people the provider it not the overriding factor. As long as its free poker and they get value for money with stamping policy.

A quick visit to the other providers web site, suggests this is a NSW based operation with only the plush group hotels on board in SA so far, it will be interesting to see if they hold their numbers considering the lack of playing venues, and no real info if its Free Poker or how their rebuys work, some events suggest a straight $10 rebuy.

I wonder if this raid into SA driven from outside SA, where is the Plush Groups corporate HQ
42.7 percent of all statistics are made up on the spot.

I know the manager of Tanunda had been planning on the Barossa/Riverland event for a while, most probably before the change of poker leagues was confirmed, but obviously the timing does look suss now when they clearly would have known of the change coming.

It's disappointing because I was going to make it a regular venue again next season when footy was finished.

I think Bob has hit the nail on the head as far as the reasoning and business cases go.

Now it is up to the players to decide where their loyalties lie.

I'd like to think that I'm loyal to NPL. They are easily the most professional poker company out (something I like) and I've made a lot of good friends (including staff) from it. It just wouldn't the same playing with another poker company.

im gonna agree with you AK, the other poker associations have no real professionalism and that is vital in keeping pub poker alive. I went 2 a rival poker game once and the TD wasnt even dealing the final table, until heads up, it was terrible and NPL is now a family to me i think

bennymacca wrote:bob, all of your points are valid about the wanting to switch operators with regards to the bottom line etc.

what i am annoyed about is the fact that they organised a special event, telling everyone that this would be a regular thing. the waikerie boys and girls pay 40+ dollars for the bus and the meal, the venue gets 100 runners and would have made a killing.

but then wait, pretty much the next day we are hearing they are closing for NPL? i am 99.99% sure they would have known they are changing before they started organising the riverlanders coming down, which means they have pulled the wool over the eyes of everyone that has spent their hard earned at the pub.

i am not a regular drinker at any of the plush pubs, but i believe they have treated their patrons with contempt in this matter, so its pretty unlikely i am going to become a regular drinker any time in the future.

the regular drinkers will still go there, but if you look at the makeup of an NPL tourney, there are many many people in this region that follow NPL around, and im pretty sure these people wont be going back.

Hi again benny the cunt. I see where your coming from on the special and yes I'm sure they were aware of making the change before the special. I

totally agree with you on all points and yes we NPL players are very loyal and fortunately for me, I don't usually drink other than an NPL poker nite.
Take care M8, I'm sure the boys will find a venue for our Regional finals somewhere.

I BELIEVE IN LOYALTY!!!

I'm not a drinker and have struggled to fill passports because of this. The Plush pubs are the dearest for stamping that I've been to but the players & TD's made it worth it, if not for them I wouldn't have bothered going.

I have played against players from "other" poker leagues and they drove me nuts - no regard for rules or table etiquette.

Yes I want to continue playing poker. NPL POKER

I hope to God that NPL get something sorted out with new venues as soon as they can.

(Tuesday nights PLEASE Matty ;) )

I'm not a drinker either.

Above everything else, you have to remember that it is the venue's choice and not the NPL's.

But you are absolutely correct. There isn't a better pub league out there. Compared to the 'competition'... the NPL blows everything else out of the water in terms of game and what it offers to it's players.
