Re: SA State Championships
While we're talking about the prize pools, can we discuss how the prizes are now made up of ME tickets that are not transferrable?
What happens if you know in advance you cannot attend? stiff biscuits? There's an incentive!
It would seem fair and reasonable to present the option to take a ME ticket as part of the prizes (where applicable).
Eg: The extra $1200 or the ME ticket? Winner of said option then makes a choice for the cash but reserves the right to give that cash back for the ME ticket if their circumstances change.
They've won that option, in my opinion.

Pardon me, but I think you'll find that's a shovel. See you next Tuesday!

I also fail to see how adding a massive customer base in NSW affects happenings in SA??
Whilst I do agree 100% that the Main Event is worth trying to qualify into at all opportunities, I would hardly call the Semi's a free-roll. All players that have qualified into it (with the possible exception of a few last minute APL event winners) have spent money attending their weekly events over the Season.
I am grateful for the great opportunities you guys provide for your customers, but this decision really confuses me, and might really hurt your business in the long run when your players decide that State Finals are no longer worth qualifying for. That's the last thing any of us want to have happen.......
This is a completely incorrect assumption to make Jo.
Without going into specifics, I can guarantee that in the past 6 months we have not grown our active player base, even with the takeover.

I was just writing that when I pressed send and saw yours Pete.
I wish I could commit now to playing the ME, though having Juliette every second weekend (and extremely unwilling to change that) means I don't know if I can play it - and not knowing the date earlier rather than later means it could be a worthless prize.

Re: SA State Championships
From my point of view, the disappointing aspect is that if your were to win a $1000.00, that alone will not cover for flights and accommodation to attend the Main Event. I think that with a smaller prize pool, there should be fewer cash positions to keep the top 3 cash more lucrative.
Peter (Papa Bear) mentioned about the prestige, but I feel even that has diminished as there is very little value or reward in the victory.
From my perspective I know I am not going to qualify for the state champs in any case, unless I get lucky at an APL event. But when I found out about the prize pool, I realise that I am not going to miss out on much.
Please keep this in perspective, there are cash games going around in Adelaide venues that are paying close to the first prize in the state champs without having to invest regularly in attending the same venues for qualification purposes.

Re: SA State Championships
People still care/remember who wins the state finals?
Grand Finals/Main Events should carry prestige.
Pete also brings up a very good point.

Not the point?

That sort of isn't anything to do with it though is it - the GF/ME prestige doesn't change this

He always does
