I have been doing a little maths myself. For me to recapture 2nd place on the leaderboard I need 55.30 points to get to the top I need 64.85 points (this is assuming that neither you or Kerry improve on your current best 15 games).

Please learn to spell my name correctly, you can look it up on the Leaderboard.........(sadly it is just below yours ).

As for making Kerry and I a target for other players, just remember we have friends that play too and they have you in their sights !!!

All that said the next 2 games will be fun...........no matter what happens. Good luck mate.........

Hey Russ, is that you mate? Good to see you on the forums. Sorry for spelling your name wrong earlier, although you're one to talk ;)

Yeah the next 2 games will definitely be enjoyable... I had this same thing last season, battling Shaun for 1st place in the final few games... this camaraderie definitely makes every game more fun. I'm not in the least bit surprised to see you fighting for top spot again (he finished 3rd in the leaderboard last year, people) - I'd back up benny the cunt's statement by putting you in the top echelon of players in the region, if not number 1.

Good luck tonight mate :)

Just in case you get desperate......
Sir John Franklin Hotel in Kapunda get up to 35 runners which equates to 45 available points if you win.
That's Sunday arvo 1.00pm rego for a 2.00 pm start.
You can easily do Kapunda and get to the Willaston game with plenty of time to spare.

Hint: Even more points if you bring more people with you!! Or you can look at it another way.....more people means you can come 2nd, 3rd or 4th and still acheive your goals :D

Good luck.

Hey Aaron,
Nice pick up on my sly little spelling of YOUR name.......win ,lose or draw, the next couple of games will be good. From a personal point of view I would love to hit a few hands, it seems like an eternity since I have had a run of cards (I think I'm overdue).....time will tell.

Thanks for the compliment, I hope I can live up to it !!!

See ya tonight.

And the regional battle is over.

After DNP'ing on Friday, and Sunday arvo at Kapunda (I had to win to increase my average anyway) I was left with the Willaston, tonight, for any chance of 1st place in the region.

At the first break, after playing some good hands, and bluffing a few, I had 3.8k (up from 1k) with two cards (5.8k). I then folded for a bit, before I MIN-raised to 800 with KJ off in the SB. Number 1 called me, flop comes A 7 2. I bet 800, he calls. Turn: 6. I check, he's all in I insta fold. Shows A6.

After that I was left with 2.5k. And we're on break.

First hand back all in on 99, and it holds against AK. Now 4.5k. Fold, fold, left with 3k, 1k in the SB, with 99 again. Number 1 raises to 4k (blinds 1/2k). Table folds around to me, and I know BB is calling, so I fold. BB pushes over the top with Q7 and is called by the initial raiser, who shows 55. 55 wins. My 99 would've held up and given me 9k. Instead, someone else is out next hand and we're at final table - I've only got 2k.

I draw the bloody Ace! Woot! I check points, and x 40 by 0.75, which gives me 40 (30 + 10). I ask a few people and they say 0.75 is 4th. I need 38, so I just assume I need 4th, I figure 5th is 37.8 or something.

WRONG WRONG WRONG.

I know that I have to see some all in's, or double up a few times, and then fold.

At the start of the FT:

Blinds: 1/2k (by the time they hit me they're 2/4k or 3/6k).
Shortstack: 1k, drew the 5. Other SS is SB with 3k, everyone else has at least 10k or more.

I fold down the first few hands (K6 ended up being a bloody house!) and we're down to 7. The TWO SHORTSTACKS see a split pot, twice. I'm all in blind in two hands. I look down at pocket Aces. I have to play them, 6th or 5th won't get me 1st, I figure, so I'm all in. Few callers, 8k in the pot.

Flop: Q 8 2. No flush draws. I have to be ahead. Russel goes all in, and is called by Shane.

Russel: Q 4.

Shane: A 10.

I show AA.

Turn: 4.

River: 7.

Russel takes it. I'm out in 7th. I get home and read that when the scores were updated, 6th gets 38 points, exactly what I needed!!! (I got 36 - I should've realised that an even number of runners meant an even number of points).

If I had known all I had to do was get 6th I probably still would've played the Aces anyway. There were no short stacks about to be blinded out, so I had to get lucky and hope someone was knocked out, putting my luck into the cards - or I could play the Aces, win on them, and fold down for someone to get knocked out, then see where I was.

Final top 4:

Kerry Wordley: 46.74
Aaron Kleemann: 46.62
Russel Minett: 45.75
David Thomas: 41.73

.12 - Wow. And I finished 2nd to Shaun Dilliway in the regional leaderboard by .5 or something last season, too.

Ah well, it was a great season.

Hey Aarron,
Nicely played tonight mate..........You were a bit stiff, this was the first final table of the season that I finally hit some cards, to crack your pocket aces was unlucky on your part, but that's POKER !!!.
From my point of view, I finished just .99 of a point behind both you and Kerry, but had to wait until until the last game of the last venue of the season to crack it for a win.

It was a very good season which I enjoyed playing. Congrats on your second place mate, you have an enviable record, which proves you can hold your own against the best.......well done and good luck in the Regionals and the States.

I've had worse bad beats. That'd be the worst in terms of scale, though. But then again even if I had won I still would've been pushing for 4th, and I could've still landed 7th on an all in anyway...

Great season, though, definitely. To be honest I didn't even expect to contend for regionals - if you check my NPL page you'll notice that 6 weeks in (counting from Wednesday, was the only venue I played every week, bar Thurs, at that point) I only have 4 points finishes.

High point finishes, yes, but only 4. That means I needed at minimum, another 9 in the final 5 and a half weeks of the season to contend regionals. And then I had a great run of form and somehow found myself contending the top 10, then top 5, then top 4, 3... etc.

I'm just happy to finish in the money again, really. Although I would've really loved finishing 1st, I'll take 2nd and 2nd over 1st and DNP.

Cheers for your comments Russ (I'm not a good player at all) and good luck at regions, and states. In fact, good luck to everyone at regions, and states.

My apologies everyone, I've just checked the final regional leaderboard placings from last season (thanks to the awesome new features implemented into the website!) and I actually finished a whole 1.97 behind Shaun, not .5. Thought it was closer for some reason :|
