In anticipation of the flood of topics we'll see later tonight, here's a place where we can all gloat/cry about our adventures at States. If anyone took any photos it'd be great to throw them in here too.

Anyway I better go get ready. Good luck to everyone today.

Well, I'm home already so I'll get this topic started! Played the first flight and was out when the blinds were 200/400. Played 1 bad hand early on and couldn't recover (had position and played JQ strong when everyone checked around and got beaten by a weak played AJ, we both hit the J on the turn and his kicker ended up being good).

Managed to slowly recover up to 2k and got dealt QQ with blinds 200/400. Early position raise of 2xBB, I go over the top with just under 2k, he calls and turns over AA. Kinda thought he may have had high pockets but couldn't lay down QQ preflop.

Really liked the antes and larger starting stacks. Certainly was different to a normal NPL tournament. Good large venue although still prefer the non-flight system.

Honestly??
I am devestated! I didn't get anywhere near as far into the competition as I wanted.

How does anyone lose to pocket Aces????????
Not only once but TWICE????

Yes well I did it!!

The NPL staff did a brilliant job!
The venue was fantastic!
The level of competition was awesome!

Personally, I believe the ante system was a great introduction. It stopped those of us that like to sit back and just wait the game out and hopefully getting into the higher numbers. It also was introduced really smoothly.

Everything looked so professional and was run so smoothly.
It was excellent to see how the players themselves just knew the difference between right and wrong and to be honest, the game could have been run without the use of TD's, which shows just how good the quality of weekly TD's are. (Without their constant work, I truly believe that players would never be as well behaved and as high in standard as they are).

The good thing was it was quality hands getting played on our table. Not chasing hands and hoping to get lucky, basically no "bad beat" types of play.

To the NPL staff and to Garth, Thankyou for a day that couldn't have been run any smoother if you tried, your all a credit to NPL.

i did ok i guess, was in when they needed 18 more people out before the break between flights, i had about 8k but knew it was only worth waiting the 3hr break if i could come back to chips, so i pushed with queens and happened to lose to two pair on the flop

all in all a good day and exprience, still think the finals is mainly luck with people on my table getting hand after hand and me having to grind all the time lol

better luck next time

To win the state finals you need a lot of luck. You need to win basically every coin flip of the day - you don't have the chips or time to wait around for stellar hands.

I did pretty average - hoped to make the recombine, but I was card dead all day. Blinds 400/800, I had 3900, pushed all in from UTG with KQ off, called by pocket 10s. They held up. About 20 minutes from the recombine.

And yeah, congrats to all TD's, they did an excellent job today. And the seaford hotel was a really nice place.

Hey ya ALK...
Sorry to hear you didn't go so good.
Which flight where you in?

I must admit, the poor bugger who was the first one knocked out in Flight 1 was really hard done by.

Not sure what he had in his hand, but the flop gave him the nut flush, so he went all in, the bloke that called him got a full house, knocking him out.

We were still in the 25/50 blinds...

The poor thing just sat there in shock, not only that I think he came from the Murry Bridge, Tailem Bend area.

Wow, that is so sick...

I was in flight 2, so unless you stuck around I missed ya, and your niece :( Where did you end up? And you had your Aces cracked twice? Ouch. I had them once, in the SB, folded around to me, I raised and BB folded. Was good to see a few people from the forum though (Bob, Des, Boss260). Disappointed I didn't get to see Pete, Scott or yourself though.

Hahhahaha... actually my niece didn't go today, but never mind, she will always be around.. ;)

No.. I didn't have pocket aces, I lost to them.

First hand I had pocket 4's
the flop came, 4,9,A

So I had trip 4's... I call $2,000 next to me raises to $4,000

I called...

But before he realised that we still had chips he turned over his cards and I did also... just got caught up..

He had pocket A's

Anyway, we just had to check the rest of the hand out

so I drew dead the rest of the hand.

Second time I had A,3 diamonds

Limped in, the other person also limped in...
I had about $1,400 left, flop came and I hit top pair and I decided to go all in...

The caller turns over pocket A's again....

Talk about breaking my heart.. LOL

It's all part of the game I guess..

But I did meet BigPete, Nathan Butler and one or two others, I think, the day is such a blur. I am disappointed because I got a lift with friends, they got knocked out and I wanted to stay and watch but they wanted to go.. so I had to go also..
