If another teams (or region oriented) event was to be held?

First things first (I want both

)
Teams event: Hell yes. I think its fairly clear that everyone wants another one. Same format - to be honest I wasn't
there, but I've heard good things. Although a "what do you want?" esque type of questionnaire thing wouldn't go astray (if there were any problems).
Region: It has to be a pick your own teams thing. You can't have "region leaders" picking teams, or a top 20 from your own region (as has been said, top 20 ain't the best 20 in the region). Its just easier to pick your own teams.
That's what I think, anyway.

I think teams event & region of origin need to be kept as 2 seperate events. Teams event, sure pick your own team. Region of origin needs to be some limit on who represents each region, so that the best possible representatives are chosen.
Here's my suggestion for Region of origin:
Triple shootout
13 regions x 20 players each + (max) 2 staff members/region = 286 players
Round 1: 36 tables x 8 players
Round 2: 6 tables x 6 players
Round 3: 1 table x 6 players
Points awarded for position eliminated in rounds 1, 2 & 3. Total team points = score for that region.
Players must have qualified for state finals via venue top 5 to be eligible for selection (and obviously other selection criteria required to finalise teams)
Thoughts please?

Teams Event:
I know the format had a few flaws, mainly with the reporting side of things. And tallying of the points. But having 480 people and getting most of it right was by itself pretty impressive.
I would like to change the format to more of a poker series format. Can't remember its name but they have it the US.
Simple Starters. 3 teams of 6 players.
Each team has two players to a table. 3 Tables.
The winner of the team takes his partner into the next series.
E.G. Table 1, Red Blue Green, Red Blue Green - Red Wins
Table 2, Red Blue Green, Red Blue Green - Green Wins
Table 3 Red Blue Green, Red Blue Green - Red Wins
Final Table Red Red Green Red Red Green. 4 reds against two greens, Once the greens are eliminated red wins.
Means the field will be more of a bracket series rather than a random team vs team event. Also does create more of an emphasis on a team play rather than singular play which is its own unique concept. Straight out collusion will still be dealt with harshly.
As for Region of Origin.
Reading PNW, in regards to the state of origin clash at Vic Champs. They were still chasing players before the event.
But as a format. I would say have a qualifying selection based of performances at certain venues (3) over 2 weeks. Whichever players have the best results from those venues are invited to play in the region of origin. If they don't want to or prior commitments, ask the next best performers.
Guess you could do it as another teams styled format as above. But not too certain.

Definitely keep them as 2 unique events.
Teams event was awesome and just from the amount of cheering I saw for everyones team I really don't think much needs to change at all. It was already a brilliant day. That's gotta be on the list of things that should be an annual event.
RoO is likely best served by a qualification process involving genuine top 5's as MP suggested, but I've not actually thought about it yet. Kinda hard to suggest a format without knowing limits on numbers but something like <x> number from a randomly drawn region sit at a table with at least 2 other regions represented by same amount of players each. That'd give a bit of a mix as to which region is playing which on any given table... could be interesting.

Weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
Found it... called the US Pokerbowl.
http://www.uspokerbowl.com/team_format.htmReally like the format, and we could extend it to encompass regions and more teams.
Basically would have to set some sort of criteria on how a region would be calculated. i.e most games played in previous season or something.
Easier to run than previous teams event too as theres no points. Last team standing wins.
Would have to have a lot of TD's on hand to stop collusion however. Things would have to be strict (depending on whats on offer).

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't there Regional leaderboards on the NPL website?
What's wrong with picking a season and choosing the top 20 performers? Same as state finals, if you qualify in more than one region your highest score is your region and then you would be removed from the list on other regions.
I know some people might not be happy they wouldn't be able to represent the region of their choice (Brad Harvey, Tony Bickle, Carmine DS.... players who travel all over for their poker) but realisticly you can't please everyone.

I like it..... semi formal ... criteria "teams could still be formed [mates ] from within and those unable to participate give room to recruit lower qualifiers...
.... five teams x 4 gives a fair representation of the region.
how many regions 10-15 ?? ... 200-300 players too many for some venues ??
answer 12 regions @ 20 = 240 ppls
[ 16ppls 4x4 or 2x8 teams x 12 = 192 even better ??].
[ 18ppls 3x6 teams x 12 = 216 players.].
Brett Kays format a possibility , I not fussed re format prefer an Event to target my participation.

the problem with this though, is that the top 20 in the region is more of a reflection of how many games someone plays, rather than their poker skill.
but it still is probably the easiest way to do things

I'm in the process of doing a full proposal.
One that I think everyone will like.
