Riverland Regional Finals and Teams Event.

The Riverland is probably unique in the fact that most towns within the region have only one venue affiliated with 888pl (besides Renmark which has two). This lends itself well to having venue based teams events, which was the case again today.
The Regional Finals was held at Cobdogla Club this afternoon with a 888pl $500 Grand Final Ticket up for grabs for the individual winner, there was a $5 prize for the knockout of each player, but bragging rights were paramount for the 8 teams that entered. Most teams sourced players from a particular venue (i was part of the Waikerie Club team), but some groups decided to go it alone and put in their own team.
The winning team would get their name engraved on the lovely plaque by TC's Todd and Nicole Rivers. Previous winners of the event have been the Waikerie Club, and the Renmark Club.
54 runners began the event with a 5k start stack.
In the end, the Waikerie team ended up winning the event (and approx $500 for our team) with an amazing performance. 4 of the teams 6 players made the final 6 of the event, with team captain Graham Baldwin cashing in a hefty double points finish in 10th place.
One of our team members, Michael Brown also won individual honours and a $500 grand final ticket.
Dino’s Allstars were second place finishers, but by a long way – the winners of the event were called while there were still two tables remaining.
Results
1st Michael Brown $500 GF ticket (Waikerie Club)
2nd Christie Partridge $150 (Dino’s Allstars)
3rd Matthew Wenske $75 (Waikerie Club)
Winning Team – Waikerie Club $480 ($80 each)
Michael Brown 1st
Matthew Wenske 3rd
Mark “Krunchie” Kroehn 4th
Matt “Maccatak” McDonald 6th
Graham “Gundog” Baldwin (Captain) 10th
Daniel Schiller approx 30th
All in all it was a great day, well done again to Todd and Nicole Rivers for a fantastically well run event.
