Victorian poker tour.. Eastern Suburbs.

Postby Nevah play JJ » Wed May 20, 2009 1:37 pm

Well, I am in Victoria, I forgot how much I love this state to visit!
But I must admit, I am already missing SA.

So I thought I would do a bit of a rundown on the venues over here, Bob B and Krunchie style.

So lastnight I had a shot at "The Croydon Hotel".
OMG... I remember that place when I was a 19 year old out on the town binge drinking the night away. It used to be called "Area" and the room looks exactly the same, but, just cleaned up and modernised. It looks great to be honest.

But anyway... Met James and his TD. (Sorry, his name escapes me at the moment).
Very nice bloke, very approachable and runs a nice clean tournament. Ohh and James seemed all right also.. (lol.. just pulling your leg James, I was talking about you).

But I have discovered "Free poker" in one venue is played the same at every venue. (I hope that makes sense).

We had a table of young blokes that just kept going all in with nothing, straddle betting (arrgghhh.. my pet hate) and just basically pushing with nothing.

But, the night was fun, it is interesting how the game does have a different feel when your not in a venue where you know most of the people. Having said that, most everyone was friendly.

There was heaps of room to play and it really was not squishy at all.

Differences:
Not that many to be honest, I love the fact that 888PL has begun to standardise all of its practices, eg: setting up the chips in the middle, fanning the cards.. etc

1. They do a new registration chip bonus of 1,000 not 500 as done in SA. I don't see that as an issue, I just think it is interesting.

2. You could go all in and not be stamped up, if you lost, you had something like 2 mins to get to the bar to get your card stamped up. In SA, if your not stamped and you go all in, too bad so sad, tell your story from the sideline.
However, James did go around lastnight and explain to all the players that this practice has now changed and they are doing it the same way we do in SA.. so big applause for that.

I must admit, because it is the end of the season and there can be fighting for top spot, I am not out to ruin anyones chance of making state finals, so I played a tight game and won a monster pot with poket kings.

I have to say also that if I had not used advice I had received from the fourms, I could quite easily have cracked the poops lastnight and stormed out. All ins with 2-6 off, stupid raises, everything.
But having learned when your against that play to tighten up my game has really made it possible for me to play the kind of game I want without having it ruined by rubbish play around me.

But I look forward to my next night out and will write about that soon.
Thanks to anyone that read this.

Sorry I didn't get to say goodbye last night. I must have been out when you got eliminated. I hope you had a bit of fun. I will admit, that SOME of the Croydon players are a bit more 'fun' with their playing style.

Enjoy your stay

Thanks heaps James.
I must say I had a ball and the Croydon players are really no different from heaps of the others that love to play free poker.

I really did enjoy the way you ran your tournament and look forward to seeing you next time.

So I played lastnight at The Ringwood Club.

WOW.. what a magnificent venue. Not squishy, the surroundings were really nice, not really sure how to word it any better than that.

I am finding the people in these two venues are really nice, I must be honest, no doubt I have not come across everyone, but I am yet to witness a wanker.. lose players, no problem, but absolute tools I have not met.

I was put on a table of really nice people, who really made me personally feel at ease and welcome and for that I am greatful.

Not sure who the TD's where, but they did a great job, must admit the mic was a little loud.. lol

I confess I played a chase game, but how is this, I was 2 spots behind big blind (Blinds are 25/50), I get pocket aces... raise to $250... big blind calls because no way I am going to "snipe his blinds" (lol).

Flop comes out 7K? I have him on a king in his hand, he bets, I call, Turn ?... he goes all in, I call... HE turns over 7-7
Arghhhh... pocket aces smashed...

Ok, I can accept that...

We go on break, come back, blinds are 100/200 exactly the same circumstances again, I am 2 spots behind big blind, Pocket Aces...
I raise to $600...
Again I am not allowed to "snipe his big blind" LOL

Board flops, ?QQ, he checks, I bet, turn ?, he bets 2,000, I call... river ? he goes all in, I call, thinking at best he has pocket kings.
He turned over Q/10
OMG, how can the same person crack my pocket aces 2 times in a row..

LOL
Now, I was not bothered because I am not chasing points, I am only out for a great night and had it. But how could you not be annoyed about getting pocket aces cracked twice?????

Having said that, he is the leader of Metro East, so I guess to a small degree I am at least happy I lost to someone of noteriety.. LOL

Anyway, thanks for reading...

I just came across this thread and I love playing at the Club, it's a very nice venue so it's good to see you had a nice experience also (apart from having your aces cracked... twice!)

Oh and don't get me started (or anyone that plays there for that matter) on the subject of the mic...

Filling in shifts whilst one of the other Tournament Captains is away at the snow.

Think my regular haunt will be the village belle in St Kilda. So should be interesting. :-).

I didn't see this post until now... Sorry Red Lady..
But it is a shame I didn't know you until now, it would have been really nice to meet you.
I totally agree with you, the Club is a very nice venue.

Don't forget to give Brett hell... LOL
