Dear Gayle,
Grab your little book series off the shelf and give them a read. Then, move on to the Harrington ones and enjoy the examples and simple talk that they offer.
Here is some good, nee great advice
DO NOT CARE WHAT STRANGERS AT A TABLE THINK OF YOUR GAME!!!!
You should get a slap on the wrist if you are NOT using your timid nature to your advantage!! Try check calling all the way early in a tourney (try and make sure your table is not one of the first to break tho) and show down K8 (or whatever).
YOU WILL GET PAID SO MUCH LATER IT WILL BE HILARIOUS!!
And when the men (as it is my experience tourneys are still at least 80% men at Crown tournies) are muttering after you send them packing with your future aggression – laugh – inside or loudly, as you use your assets to your advantage _ not being a victim to it.
My sweet Sarah Jane is a fantastic player – fairly standard, but a ‘feel’ based player. She has a gun game but never fails to amaze me the amount of players that pay her off primarily because she is a woman. She smiles sweetly, bets pot and they just can not seem to fold, and she still smiles sweetly as they are busted walking out the door. She could probably put on a different ‘persona’ (she is an award winning actress), but it would not be an advantage at all. Her god given, parent influenced personality is ingrained in her.
My smartarse personality is ingrained in me – it is not something we can readily change, nor should we really want to.
I also think you should possibly re-think your goals. A $10,000 tourney is a pretty lofty goal – why not aim for the $1100 opening event? The pressure of a $10k tourney for an amateur player (who is not independently wealthy) will weigh too heavily on your shoulders. The load of a $1100 should feel much lighter.
Best of luck, and remember – the cash tables are there to fill the time if you unfortunately bust – but hopefully they are there to keep your husband busy while you collect your chips for FT’ing or Trophy from the tourney you just owned!!

Re: Opinions/advice please!!!!!
Thank you all for all of the wonderful advice. A few thanks are in order and her goes
Gmatical you really told me what I needed to hear with your early post and this is something I really appreciated. Your next one gives me some pretty awesome advice which is just as much appreciated.
benny the cunt you know I always respect your opinion you are a legend and I was happy to get your input also.
Rcon you gave me some good steps for me to define what I really wanted.
Jav you helped me so much as I knew I was not alone with what I was facing and you have made a wonderful step to the next level which gives me hope.
So where to from here? Step 1 going to buy a new mp3 player at the weekend and load up some songs for the semi's. As good a time as any to try them out. I am going to get a start on reading those books and am setting aside an hour before bed to do this.Have set myself the reward of buying the other books recommended plus the Annie Duke book when I have completed them all. No more saying just doing and going to take a few more risks and embrace my table image and start doing something about the areas I know I let myself down. Going to get a lot more play in. I am going to start going to a regular game played in Melbourne which a lot of the dealers from crown play ( it is a $50 buyin with $50 add on which is a good start). I have heard there are some pretty decent players down there which should help with experience. And finally I am going to have fun
Again thank you all and as always may the poker gods be on your side next time you play

I haven't played online since July of last year and I don't play in venue anymore. Go to the cas for $1/$2 now and then though.

It's called a Funsult. Part funny, part insult. He invented them. I coined the term. See what I just did there? That was an explainabrag.

If it was funny I might've had the chance to laugh.
