Dear Abbey

Dear Abbey,

Over the past month or so I have found myself constantly losing hands on the river after being in front the whole way. This has been both on the felt and virtual.

I am in no way saying that I have been a victim of bad play on every occasion (sometimes I have been my own villain obviously) but it's just doing my head in at the moment. Consequently I am making some ridiculous calls on the river with the thought in my head 'Surely it can't happen again!!', but it does.I have found my thought process to be all over the shop lately.

The silver lining to it all has been that I have learnt a great deal via re-evaluation and help from some very cluey forumers and I am very grateful for the help.

Surely many if not all of us have or will go through periods like this and I was just hoping to extract some guidance from any experience that is available.

Thanks in advance

Dear Larx36

Thank you for your post, I understand and can certainly appreciate your heartfelt sob story. I would say SUCK IT UP PRINCESS, but Wabbey is not like that.

As you are too aware we are each dealt two cards and then we must choose how best to play them, all too often we are infront pre-flop just as there are some born with silver spoons, but really it how we play those two cards that makes who we are... We can limp in and believe that we will remain ahead at the showdown.

I too have been ahead all the way until river, i know it, i feel it and then that dreaded river card deals a fatal blow and we know we are done for, but still regardless of the odds we choose to fight on, only to feel that card pierce our dying heart.

What keeps me going I hear you ask, why fight on when all you ever see is AA or KK cracked by a better hand whether that be a Straight, Flush or whatever.... REVENGE..
Revenge is what keeps me going, I purposly raise or call with pocket 2's or even the Sinitster hand 2,4 suited just hoping to crack those big hands.

Like last night for instance, Wabbey knew Larx was infront so far infront that his chip stack was surely gone for good... You had KK I flat called with 99, flop is doesnt help me, you know, I know it and you Push ALL IN... but i'm tired I say and want to sleep so I call you....

The Turn a no helper card

The River another 9.....

Your Dreams become fade into one of those nightmares on Elm Street, you cry, I laugh.... Today I had my Kings crushed twice only by some suckout but what sweet revenge... I finally played a hand that crushed my opposition and I feel vindicated.

So Larx36... my advise is forget AA, AK, KK all top 10% of hands they wont make you feel good, play the bottom 10% and know how good it feels when you finally hit your hand and you can see tears in other players eyes..

lol wabbit

im not sure how i could answer this post seriously now, but here goes

there are two awesome poker theorems that have been suggested by people of the twoplustwo community.

the most important of these is called the baluga theorem.

trust me, this works extremely well.

Baluga Theorem wrote:Simply put, the Baluga Theorem states that you should think twice about whether your one pair hand is good when you’re facing a raise (and especially a checkraise) on the turn. That’s not to say that one pair is never good, but a raise/checkraise on the turn from your opponent generally means he has a very good hand and warning bells should start ringing in your head. He’ll probably have at least top pair with a good kicker or some kind of combo draw (i.e. pair + draw, flush + straight draw).

another one i have just read up about is the theorem attributed to zeebo
Zeebo Theorem wrote:Simply put, Zeebo’s Theorem states that no one ever folds a full house. It doesn’t matter if you make a 1/2 pot sized bet, a full pot sized bet, or massively overbet. The villain will not fold their full house, even on a very dangerous board.

another thing to consider might be your bet sizing - maybe a couple of example hands might be good.

if you have a good hand, but there are obvious draws out there, then make your bet sizing larger, closer to full pot than half pot.

also, if someone goes call flop, call turn, raise river, you are usually beat, even with something as strong as 2 pair, and especially if the obvious draw hits - i.e Q or 9 on a TJ board, or the third flush card gets there.

very few people will bluff these boards by raising you, especially if you have shown strength on previous streets

Thanks Wabbit... your input is amazing.I will ensure to remind you of your assistance when I d0nk your arse lol

BTW... If I remember that hand you mention correctly UTG raised pre flop with TT maybe, I re-raised with my KK and you were all in over the top with 99. It was all in the lap of the poker gods from there on.

benny the cunt... Thanks very much mate. Will check them links out.

My dear Wabbey ,

I will most certainly NOT play 2 4 suited .... Has to be off suit , black / red to be precise ! ! or blue / green , green / black , red blue etc !

Thank you ,

Mr. PhorTu Sinitster xx

Dear Larx36

sorry you maybe right, so many hands so many suckouts last they tend to blend into one awersome DONK.
