The guy is only 18 and thought that was the norm, he didn't get the text, hadn't played 12 months prior and didn't want to cause trouble.
He's not sitting on his hands either, he still thinks alls normal. I am the one who is speaking up
for this guy.
On the subject of comparisons lets say its free poker like a freeroll online
you can reg & play a tourny & still be entitled to 100% of the prizes allocated without rebuying. Should not the venues be the same as it is exactly the same principle of rebuying with passports & raffle tickets?
feedback on this comparison should be interesting

Re: Raffle tickets & filling out passports
I dont like the idea of paying money for a ticket and not all the money going back to the players. in fact that is illegal if i am not mistaken because they are essentially raking that prize pool. maybe that is why they call it a raffle, but if thats the case, they should have it registered as a lottery.

State legislation is not the same state to state. You're assumption just made an ass out of you, and you alone. LOL

i did say if i am not mistaken garth. if it is legal in tas then i stand corrected, no need to call anyone an ass.
even if it is legal, paying for a ticket where 80% of the prize pool is kept is still pretty bad though (unless it goes to build some other prize pool)

Re: Raffle tickets & filling out passports
Craig,
Have you asked Brendan or Anthony for a breakdown of funds received at the venue level? If you address this with them this may enlighten you to the operations.
I do not presume to speak for Brendan and his operations as he has a far better understanding of this particular instance than anyone else.
Secondly I do agree that the SMS was ambiguous at best, I will speak to the team around this. In saying that I will not declare that the player in question is entitled to this prize until I have spoken to the Tassie team. There are several considerations to be made:
1.) Was the promotion and mechanics announced?
2.) Is there adequate notification around the promotion at time of registration?
3.) Is there a hard copy of the TandC's surrounding this promotion available?
Finally - the system is in place to assist with funding prize pools at the nightly and seasonal level. It is quite simple in my mind; if you do not contribute to the prize pool, you should not be entitled to any part of it. However I do believe that those who qualify for state champs are not required to participate in the raffle to redeem their qualification into the finals.

I put an LOL at the end - assumption makes an ass out of u and me? Get it?
I don't know the details surrounding what portion on the night goes to players but I can see that all funds go towards prize pools, be it nightly, weekly, seasonally, etc..
FYI on state legislation:
WA - cash games are regulated and are able to have a rake removed as community funding.
NSW - unregulated market, rake is allowed, no limits set at any level.
VIC and SA - unregulated market, buy ins allowed, 100% to be returned to players.
TAS - cash games not permitted but social clubs can offer skill based prizing for monetary considerations.
QLD - no cash games, yet.

Oh, so the other 80% of this money goes to the state finals?
That changes everything entirely.
I now agree that the only issue here is that the method in which you can win $100 wasn't communicated clearly enough

Re: Raffle tickets & filling out passports
If you take a look at the 888 Poker league (Tas) group on October 11th & 28th you will see that Alfred M brought this topic up on occasions but was pretty much told the reasons for seating allocations are for good purposes, I mean seriously concerns raised are not addressed at all. Everytime this topic is raised it is watered down to some other topic & this seems to be the normal thing. Transparency has been questioned to this money on the site with Anthony with the same response of seating allocation.
Our venue is now an APL site & 888 has been kicked out at last minute to a pub nearby.
On comparisons APL offer $100 for 1st if you only buy a $5 raffle ticket. a draw is involved with this & the venue winner gets a shot at a $12000 winners tournemant. Also top 5 at venue get into state final same as 888.
I'd rather 888 over APl but it is becoming unaffordable to many people.
