So here goes. It is a little long winded so I apologize in advance :D

Day 1

up bright and early ironed my clothes for the weekend. Finished packing and put on my nice, freshly ironed white shirt. The grumpy one gave me the big pep talk before I left, great advice too something along the lines of if you think you are ahead call and if you think you are behind fold. Friends picked me up shortly after this and we were on our way. This is the first time I had gone to a poker event without the grumpy one or one of the kids so was a new experience for me and I was super pumped. What could possibly go wrong? This question was answered about 45 minutes into the trip when I spilled V8 juice all over myself.

Fast forward onto crown. Had a lovely taxi driver with a sunny disposition who really reminded me why I love Melbourne so much. Sat down at the tables and was really surprised I was not nervous at all. Bizarre table to say the least. We had nearly every hand consisting of multiple limpers and no one seemed to want to raise. One guy on the table did raise occasionally but the bets were just so over the top ( 30 bb raises and usually from early position) that they were never called. Went to first break about 6k up which I was happy with. Second break had increased this to about 18k up so again was happy with this.

Shortly after the second break I was moved to a new table and what a change that was. Super aggressive players with someone usually all in pre flop. I was really card dead at this stage and most hands consisted of unsuited rags ( 7-3 was a hand that I saw over and over again). Got my ipod out to help me focus more only to find it had broken. Ended day one well down and would be starting day 2 with about 13 bb.

Day 2

Woke up and the enthusiasm of day 1 was gone. Had hurt my back and was really in a bad mood. Got the taxi driver from Hell who drove like a maniac and yelled at us for taking a taxi on such a short trip. The day did not get any better when my pocket 6's ran into queens and the dream was over. Rang the grumpy one and he organized to come down and play partners event with me. Both my sons arrived both wanting me to skip the partners event for alternative plans (one wanting to take me to church and the other to strippers. )I choose instead to hang around crown and wait for the grumpy one. About 6pm got the call that he was no longer coming and I would have to stay in Melbourne another night. Even worse I no longer had a partner for the partners event. On a brighter note got to catch up with the two players from Bendigo who had made day 3.

Spent the next 30 minutes trying to find a partner for the partners event. When it became obvious that no one was going to come to my rescue grabbed my son and paid for us both to play. Love my son dearly but after the last time we played in a partners event I swore that I would never be his partner again and having to pay for the privilege did sting. His theory is that with god on his side any two cards can and will win for him. Must give him credit though he played well and he did manage to build us up a big stack. Was all over again though when I shoved my ace jack suited into Glyn's pocket 5's.

Day 3

Railed the players from Bendigo before heading home tired, sore, hot and grumpy.

To all of the people I meant to catch up with sorry I missed you. To those I did catch up with it was great to meet you and next time promise to bring happy G. To the fullhouse group thank you for the opportunity to play in such a big event. To everyone involved with running the weekend you did an awesome job and should be proud how it went. See you all next time G

Nice read Mad.

well played, makes me think I should write something up.

But if you thought yours was long, holy hell!

Nice work though, glad you had a great time for the most part.

Thanks Brett. I cannot say I was unhappy with most of my play. As I said this is the first time I sat down to a big tournament where I was not nervous at all. I have picked up on a couple of big flaws in my game and will be working on them going forward . I am playing in the deep stack event at crown in a couple of weeks so it will interesting to see how I fair there. I am fairly sure there will not be multi limped pots at that event but who knows.

My main event lasted 4 hours, played well but the dreaded JJ cost me dearly on two occasions. Not much joy on the cash tables either over the weekend.

Watching the ME final table was exciting. Maybe there needs to be a better spectator viewing area for the FT. could crown look at doing a WSOP stadium style feature table?

Love the idea of the seating as being short struggled to see anything.
