Goodbye

Postby David » Wed Jun 06, 2012 10:22 am

Good morning,

I created the first login on this site just before lunch time on the 10th of October 2007.

I thought I would get in early to let you know that this forum will be closing at the end of this month (June 2012).

It has been almost five years since I thought a forum might be a nice addition to the (then NPL) 888PL product and in that time it's been great to be involved in something I am passionate about, and have met many awesome people through. The forum itself has grown from a couple of people and little content to something that is rich with information, and in some ways, history. There are threads following people in events, live updates, photos, discussions on venues that have been and gone, and the occasional troll.

We even had a Forum Freeroll event organised by us with cash prizes, and the 888PL donated their time and staff for the event.

Even though 888PL management still reply to you on here regarding a range of issues, you will continue to receive the same speedy, accurate and current replies via e-mail and Facebook. Make sure you are aware of both methods and have joined all appropriate groups.

Thanks to Scott who has helped me administer the site, and the moderators who have dealt with a range of issues over time. I couldn't have made this run for so long if not for their valuable assistance. thanks also to Garth and the team at FHG who continued to contribute throughout the entire time and made the forum more than just a place for players to chat amongst themselves, but a place where questions could be answered, and information about events could be read.

Sometime around lunch time, on its 1726th day, the forum will close. I will start a small side-project where I archive dates, results and images on some form of wiki for everyone to read.

Thank you ALL for contributing, reading, and hopefully enjoying what we've had here.

Hopefully I'll see you all around the place.

Regards,

David

I have to say, i am pretty sad that this day as come, though it seems that unfortunately the forum doesnt get the traffic it used to.

I dont think the early days of pub poker would have been the same without this forum, especially in SA, and most of the other regular posters on here i count as genuine friends now, some really good friends, and that was all due to this forum.

So i have to say a massive thankyou to Dave and everyone else who has posted on here over the years.

I think our last month on here should be dedicated to bumping old threads that we have liked to relive them once more before they die

Where to start.

I check in, but don't post as often as i used to, work does that, especially during the day and a two hour time difference as well.

I remember the first Teams event that was organised through the forum, and then ran in SA. I managed to meet most of the people that were on the forum. Dave, Scot, Matt, Coleman, Des, Matty Norwood, Caleb, Dakota, Hell there are heaps more to name from staff and players.

To see that day come together so well, was awesome, to see the team one card it for the win was even more spectacular.

Doing the first and second live reporting for the grand final, having good feedback from that. Having some of my stuff stickied for PLO. Seeing Garth run deep in the Joe Hachem deep stack series, railing from WA, writing on the forum, not being there to give the big brother a hug when he was knocked out.

Lot of memories. Sad to see the place go, but know that Dave has invested a lot of time and effort, and can only hope that what he does next will be as successful if he keeps that work ethic.

Dave your still my facebook friend. Will definitely see you around.

Brett.

I am pretty sad to hear this news but I can understand why the decision was reached given the decline in traffic and the increasing use of social media.

When I first started playing poker "seriously", the league was called the NPL and 888 had just started hosting online games. I tried to be smart and make my name NPLKing but then the league decided to change names and I've looked like a tool since. I had heard about the forum and was a lurker for a few months before making my first post, under the pseudonym "frustrated". It was a post about my frustrations at the poor standard of play. Rather than getting flamed, abused or ignored, what I got was supportive and positive advice from all of the regs on the forum. After that I started to post more frequently as the first season of the 888PL got underway. There was the word association game and the AK hearts benny the cunt thread.

I then changed my username to "trishan" (not quite as good as NPLKing lol) and over 4000 posts later, here I am, as it is probably fair to say, a "reg". I've spent a lot of time of these forums over the years and take away many fond memories. I owe a lot to these forums and to the members. It was on these forums that I developed from a highly amateurish and ignorant poker player into a "thinking" player. It was on these forums that my love for the game began. Most importantly it was on these forums that I've had the pleasure to get to know a bunch of really great people and for that I will always be grateful. Thank you 888PL forum, thanks to Dave and Scott for investing your time to make this forum happen and thanks to all the members who have been a part of this great community over the years.

Hey David, Just want to say thanks for the supper human effort, that this forum has lasted as long is a testament to yourself and all the other mods here.
In these times of social media this was bound to happen.
I do hope you manage to get a lot of the content onto a wiki so that it will be there for the future, as this forum is so a part of the growth of the poker in Australia.

So many characters that have entertained me over the time I have been here, sometimes I would just sit here and read for hours, never really saying much but very much enjoying the camaraderie of the members.

Its been a great trip mate cheers

Hi All,

It is indeed a very sad day for all involved.

I have loved this forum from day 1 and it has certainly been a fantastic ride for us all.
I and 888PL have continued to grown in great parts to the people and contributions made on this forum.

I would personally like to thank Dave and Scott for their time in administering this forum and for also being great blokes and two people I will always count as friends.

To all the Mods; Muzz, benny the cunt, Brett thanks for your efforts and work on this forum as well. Also cannot forget the old guard in Andre J and Big Pete!

It truly has been a wonderful adventure and I will miss terribly communicating (and dealing with) all the personalities on this forum. Many great freindships (and firery rivalries) have been born on this forum.

Unfortunately with the growth of our business and the increase in the use of social media we just do not have the time or resources to dedicate to this forum.

I hope to be over in Adelaide again soon and we can all get together and toast to the good memories!

All the best in the future and lots of love to all!
Garth Kay

What benny the cunt said. It's died off in the last few years a bit, but I can't forget the impact this forum, and the relationships I've formed from it, has had on me. Immeasurable, really.

Sad, sad times.
