i am not sure about the actual numbers, but i am pretty sure that there was a surge in numbers at the end of the season in the B&G due to people wanting to qualify for the regional finals
in addition to this, i think that having promotions (extra prizes, satellite entry, small tourney for place getters of the last 3 weeks) is a much better idea than messing with the points system.
if there were double points last season, i would have easily made the top 5 at the venue that i regularly played at, but this does not mean its a good idea.
Bonus Points in the last three weeks season.

How about, to keep numbers up all season round, you merge the seasons? So the last 3 are also the first 3, does this make sense to all????

So Garth, are you asking the forum for their opinion or are you telling us what may be happening seeing it's already been discussed.
I believe the Prizes versus prize money started off in a similar topic and we now have prize money.
It's just my personal observation but I think AK's Post makes more sense in keeping people around. Check it out and see the responses.

I can see both sides of the good and bad. Because people are so far behind leading up to the qualifying stage they dont bother showing up so bonus points would be good for some people. why not give everyone a fair go!!
So even if u are leading a venue think of this idea as a positive, think of how many more points u could get and extend your lead even further!! Thats if u are good enough!! And if you are a constant player there would be no disadvantage!!!!!

And maybe if you do get pipped at the post in the last three weeks maybe think are you really good enough to play finals anyway!!

Definately dont agree with this one, I qualified 6th at the Bremen & got into finals because someone above me went through the state leaderboard, does that mean I wasnt good enough? Its the same theory as what is being stated above. I believe that current system is fair for all, I think people play at times very silly to get into finals by calling and raising on cards that are not worthy, but come the finals, play changes & it is taken alot more serious & people call, raise & bet as you should in poker, your touney life is dependent on every hand, there is no second chance at the final. So if someone comes along and goes all out to try & qualify in the last 3 wqeeks because of the double points & gets lucky to jag a result, but only in the last 3 weeks where they have nothing to loose because they wouldnt of qualified anyway, it is not fair to the consistent player.
I wouldve thought that if you cant make it after 7 weeks of playing & need double points to get in to the finals, then maybe you are not worthy of the seat.
Does this make sene?? Gee I start typing & then cant stop!!!!

Re: Bonus Points in the last three weeks season.
I have to say 'no'.
The venue starting up with only a couple of weeks left is one thing, and I don't mind that at all, but any venue that has lowish numbers regularly would likely have a fairly tight leaderboard as it is - someone could come in and smash it just from the bonus points. That's hardly going to go down well with those that bothered to show up every week. You want to keep people happy right?
If player retention at a venue is an issue, I'd be looking more at the venue itself and what they offer to get players through the door to begin with. For example, Nicole mentioned the Bremen - their food is RUBBISH and their prizes equally so but other than that they have a good area set aside for poker and potentially could be doing lots better. If players start rocking up because of bonus points it's hardly encouraging the venue to lift their standards.
Swings and roundabouts?
