i think it sounds really good garth, especially if there are extra satellites for the major tourneys still.
looking forward to seeing what happens in the future

Same.
Can anyone confirm the prize structure for regional leaderboards this season? I've heard reports there's cash prizes on offer (for what position you finish in), but haven't heard anything official. My understanding is that the details are still being worked out and cash prizes won't be offered until next season.

Hi there benny the cunt, I might be out of touch since I retired but I agree with DAMATCH and TORCH.
I realise NPL are a business and need to cover their costs relating to salaries & prizes, etc, plus make a profit.
And through their hard work in promoting and encouraging new VENUES to join the NPL network they are the major "FREE PUB POKER" operators in South Australia.
It's simply a good business venture for the NPL. They have found a nitch in the market place where people are willing to take part in a gambling venture and spend their money at selected venues.
The venue operators are required to pay NPL for the venue to be held on their premises plus an addition fee per player. In return NPL offer them "US THE PUNTERS".
We "THE PUNTERS" are offered incentives by NPL to purchase meals and drinks from the various venues to gain extra poker cash via our flight cards. And at the end of a given season prizes that most of us dream of winning.
Shorter 10 week seasons
More short seasons keeps the "PUNTERS" wanting to be on top. Now, the PUNTER needs to play more and more venues and tourneys to gain more points. This is because the "TOP 50" entry has been reduced from 25 to 15 of you best games.
He or she needs to play more games and venues Because there's only 10 weeks to the finals and there's $2000 up for grabs this time.
Hmmm, what a marketing bonus, well done NPL.
Imagine if NPL only had say 2 tournaments a year!!! You might go to one or two tourney's a week for a social gathering with your mates and a few beers.
No money in that for anyone and it would be as boring as watching paint dry and NPL would go broke.
More venues, more player, more bucks it's that simple.
So why is Garth and the powers to be wanting to change the goal posts????????
Is it because it's easier to grab a wad of cash rather than chase good deals for some great prizes?????
Do they think that $10,000 cash for first sounds better than a possible $20,000 overseas prize package?????
Is it because they want to increase the profit margins of the NPL which will in turn gain better bonuses if they are available???
Or is as Garth says, that they want parity between the various states?????
Well benny the cunt, that's how I see the whole deal. Maybe I'm right and maybe I'm wrong and maybe one day I'm good enough to be worthy of a major prize!!!
If you have ever travelled to the Victorian Alps there's plenty of snow M8.

i tend to think that the NPL do a great job at giving extra incentive to play through promotions and prizes.
but if they offered a 20K cash prize state final from season 1, then noone would complain.
but your right, its probably the only avenue i have to play at the WSOP in vegas (one of my dreams), so i hope the international prize package does stay available in some form or other, whether it be the state finals or not.

Hi Bob,
Pretty Cynical post mate.
1.) We have doubled the prize pool been offered in SA. For this year alone the minimum prize pool is $500,000 just for SA, more than any other free poker provider offers anywhere.
2.) I have already stated why the payout structure has been changed at State Finals. And FYI after a poll was conducted of several players and throughout VIC and NSW, 80% of players would prefer cash as a prize and correct tournament payout structures.
3.)
I'm pretty sure I did the maths right:
last season you needed to play 2.1 games per week over twelve weeks to play the minimum games to qualify for State Leaderboard.
With the new structure it is 1.5 games over ten weeks. How is this requiring "punters" to play more and more venues?
4.) How have we changed the goal posts? The State Finals are still worth $20,000 but are showing are more even, fairer spread now. Prize pool has been distributed in such a way that regional players also get access to a greater portion of it as the majority of regional qualifies cannot or cannot afford the time or money to attend State
Finals. We now have 5 state finals per year worth 20,000 each rather than 4 each (12 week season) worth the same amount.
5.) To the majority of our grass roots players, yes, cash is an easier and more achievable goal for these players. The majority of players do prefer cash more than prizes. Re check your prize figures too please Bob. State Finals is worth 20,000, poker package was worth 10,000.
6.) As previously stated there will still be chances for players to win entry into major Australasian (southern hemisphere) tournaments.
7.) So as a business we are wrong to look to increase profit or make a profit? Or find avenues to increase our profit? Why is this frowned upon by the majority. The more profit made by a company means more dollars in local economy and more staff hired locally.
But in answer to your remark Bob, no we are not putting these practices into place to increase profits or garner bonuses. I do not have any bonuses or schemes set up in my salary, I sacrificed them a long time ago and would rather contribute that money to staff bonuses, freerolls or player education. Money is one of the few things I do not have a problem with or chase more of.
8.) And finally yes we do want all states operating on the same seasonal structure with very similar prizes offered across all states in a true national competition.
Yes Bob, in the end you are wrong. We spend a great deal of time in market research. We do the best we possibly can for our players because without you guys we have no competition. We are offering more now than ever before we have doubled the prize pool on offer in this state and are continually thinking of new prizes and structures to keep the player's interested. There is no cynical campaign to try and fleece you players as much as possible.
Please feel free to keep on debating this. I am interested in everyone's views and setting them right. LOL

Hi there benny the cunt you dead right M8. The NPL are doing a fantastic job and if it wasn't for them I'd still be sitting home every nite watching poker on FOX.
And if it wasn't for this damned forum I'd have all my house work done and the kitchen dresser sitting outside for a month already stained and in the house
If you go back to the original post that Garth wrote he was asking how people would feel "IF" the prizes were changed to cash and how we would like to see it broken down.
I have responed a couple of times and now it appears that a "WHAT IF" may become a "WHEN".
Either way, I'd be over the moon if I was able to be accepting either prize M8.
Just watch those felt burns when your dragging in the chips M8

anyone would be crazy to turn down 5K any time.
in addition, if u get an aussie millions seat for instance, and then not cash, then u have got nothing!
although a free seat to a major tourney would be good, i wonder how many players in the NPL would rate their chances of turning that into a cash at the major tournament? at this stage in my life/poker, i think 5K would be better.
