I must say the entrance from the river side is very nice however it seemed a little odd to go through the front bar area to get to the dining room. Maybe there was another entrance but it was unusual. The tourney is actually played in the front bar area which is a little tight but not uncomfortable.
Jerry and myself had the Kingy steak and it was done perfectly as were the snitzel/prawn combos and the barramundi for the ladies. My two had desert while Jerry showed me where to register and card up. Darren and Matty welcomed me to the Kingy and prewarned me that they play a little different here!!!!!
We went back to the dining room and finished our drinks as Jerry was explaining where to sit (not on the dance floor with big bums and plastic chairs etc
Anyway having said that Jerry said we'd better go and pick a spot as it was just after 7.20pm. Talk about the quick and the dead, they had already started LOL. Never heard a call in the diner as they would do down town they just apparently decided it was time to start and they did.
My table seemed to have a good mix of players. On my right was Jill from Clare in need of playing at a venue with more than 20 people. Robby "O" a local, a young couple two guys with a memory loss only joking,
I decided to play tight and get a read on how they played due to my previous warning from Jerry and the TD's. As I said b4 the guy to my left played every hand with any two cards and called everything with absolutely bugger all in most cases.
He used his first card after 3 hands and the second card wasn't that much later. I asked him if he was on a mission as the cards he was calling with, never hit anything on the board? He said he came second in his last tourney playing the same way.
He actually missed one hand and I jokingly asked him if he was having a relapse. He was gone soon afterwards b4 the first break as was expected. The other two guys were still in their own little world as we had to prompt them each time it was their turn. Bit of fun here and there but it was all in good taste.
Darren came over smiling and said "do you see what I meant" I said "yep they are different here"
I had doubled my initial chip stack and blinds were $50 / $100 I was dealer with pocket 2's. So with 3 callers I decided to get rid of the limpers and raised to $400. SB goes ALLIN for around $2,400 another ALLINNER for around $600 and a caller and I'm outa there in a flash.
Not one of them had a pair or suited connectors or a str8 draw or even two picture cards, not even an Ace!!!!!!!! The highest hand was a jack rag that the SB went ALLIN with!!!!!! He actually hit 2 pair on the flop and won the pot. Jill & I were totally dumbfouned and asked him why he went ALLIN? He didn't know me and thought I was stealing his small blind.
As the night progressed we lost the two youngens and the jack rag man. Simmo took his place and another guy with a stack of chip was opposite me. the quality of players rose to the occasion and we had some really great poker.
As I suspected the two I was wary of were playing well and Jill was chip leader on our table. The tension built when we got down to the first bubble. We were down to 5 on our table and the blinds were coming around so fast. I had around $8k and the blinds were $2k $4k from memory.
The bubble burst and players started dropping off like flies. I hit one hand in a heads up and won it but I was getting low on chips when they said it was final table. Had another chat with AK AAron and Bruce and a couple of others off the forum during the final break.
I had $9k left and unfortunately drew BB. The only thing I won was the chip race to put me on $10k and allin first hand
Overall it was a really, really, great night and one to remember. I met some really nice people caught up with some forum buddies made the final table and had a great meal.
Both TD's run a good venue and they have some very good players there. Unfortunately seeing that I made points they are stuck with me now
