My background is in hospitality management. I am not siding with anyone here, but community clubs do get greater advantages than privately owned businesses; less tax as a whole, most staffing costs are either reimbursed by government or is voluntary work and also any clubs must return some of their profits back to the community.
After managing hotels for several years and then managing a workman's club for 1 year I can definitely say that clubs do have an advantage when it comes to overheads and re sale on items.
This is just my knowledge of how things operated in Vic and NSW. I do know that many clubs are exempt from some sales tax, whether ir be federal or State. Hence why most clubs can afford to sell items at a greater discount rate than the privately owned hotel up the road.
Don't get me wrong I'm all for community clubs, they are the cornerstone of many communities, all I am saying is that as a business model community clubs have a greater advantage in that they are not seeking large profit of there turnover whilst a privately owned establishment may be.
Thats what I mean't to say, I guess I worded my post a little wrong, without much thought.
The community / sports clubs do have less overheads than the hotels, which make them able to offer cheaper meals / drinks.
It just seems to me a lot of people want a lot, but they want it for nothing. I'm going to avoid this thread now
