because he had the ace.... an ace always wins
called a raise preflop
called a bet on the flop
called an all-in on the turn
i love how people complain about the quality of other players... when they played the hand wrong themselves
at no point did he take the lead in the hand, just called it down
the other player probably thought you were on some draw, or just ace high and tried to bet you out of the pot, unfortunately you got lucky on the turn and hit your straight, but they got lucky and hit their flush
It's only 60/40 preflop and 73/27 on the flop. Even on the river it is only 80/20.
People need to take the lead in hands more, instead of just calling everything.

Re: Payneham Tavern
sorry guys the bet on the flop was infact only 200 (mistype), and there was a third player pre-flop so of course im going to call the 200 (flop bet) on a straight draw because i have the chance to win a very big pot. An ace or queen would prob put me in front here as well.
and des there is no way i play aces because they look good, how would u of played this hand better? Where would i take the lead?
re-raised preflop? no, blinds still 25/50 so a 200 raise u call only, ace queen is not a made hand
flop? fold the hand when kings can give me the nuts or a ace or queen to prob put me in front, always calling the 200 raise, which is 1/3 of the pot ONLY
turn? all in, yes u call with the nut straight
i think i played this hand alright, why would i need to take the lead in this hand when there is someone firing away on every street
it was a bad beat, that all-in bet by her was stupid and she got lucky

Hi there Steve. That was so, so, bad M8!!!! What were you thinking???? Surely you know that 8-6 suited is better than A-Q off, LOL.
I'm so sick of bad beats I'm gonna start playing like a MULE coz you can't play like a Donky any more LOL.
Try this one I'm BB and the blinds are $50/$100. I have pocket tens 4 call the blind I raise an extra $200 taking it to $300 they all call.
Flop comes 8 9 10 all off suited, they all check I raise $400 taking it to a $2100 pot. They all fold except for one guy (my friend) who was down to his last chips due to a couple of bad beats.
He says, "you've probably got me beaten Bob but I'm sick of playing good cards and getting beaten. Sorry Bob but, I'm gonna see if I can donky you out".
He goes allin, obviously I called with the remaining $425 of my chips. Good looking pot of $3,150 and it the last couple of hands b4 the first break.
He turns over A 7 suited
Turn comes a rag card
River comes a Jack to give him a straight.
I might say I was a little on tilt but I think I managed to keep my cool even with him still taking the p---s out on me during the break. Luckily I still had my 2 flight cards so I wasn't out all together.
Now, I know he is gonna read this at some stage and all I can say is, "my turn will come". He's a good mate and I eat with him and his family every Thursday nite at Para Hills.
So Bill, don't leave me alone with your food on the table when you get your salads etc, LOL

Re: Payneham Tavern
well you never put in that it was 25/50 for a start, i assumed it was 100/200.
its not a bad beat as you were a calling station in the hand
As you never actually did any betting and were just calling it showed to the person that you were weak and they probably thought a semi-bluff on the turn would get you out of the pot
Semi-bluff: a bluff in which you actually have outs to still win the hand
unfortunately the turn made your hand and you called the semi bluff
yet the player got lucky on the river and hit one of their 9 outs to win
its like people who don't raise with AA and just check call a players bets to the river and end up getting beaten by two pair tens and threes
it was definately unlucky but not a bad beat, as i said it was still 80/20 on the river

Re: Payneham Tavern
i dunno if id play differently or not
i tend not to chase early on in a tournament so probably would have folded it on the bet on the flop
but also you have to think about who is on the table, if you know them etc... if im playing on a table and don't know anyone i tend to sit back and try and get an idea of what kind of player they are
then again, the last few tournies i havent been playing my best, so i possibly could have went broke too lol
can't win them all mate

Re: Payneham Tavern
If you were very sure the person would keep betting or call any raise regardless...why didn't you fold instead of calling after you missed the flop? (if you say 'because I had a gutshot straight draw' then you deserved to lose IMO).
Would have got out of it cheaply and lived to trap them on a different hand later on.
It's very hard to outplay a calling station, you basically have to be sure you have the best hand before you even think about trying anything.

Pardon me, but I think you'll find that's a shovel. See you next Tuesday!

Re: Payneham Tavern
im gonna put in that $200 everytime with 2 overcards and a gut shot straight draw, with 600 already in the pot its worth having one look imo, just because if i hit the king i could win a very big pot and for runner runner hearts to come out i just got unlucky
i guess im looking into this too much but i just didnt like des' comment that i only played the hand because i had an ace
back to the venue, it was my first time playing there and its a great little place, love those poker tables
