Where SHOULD there be NPL events?

Postby David » Wed Apr 23, 2008 4:56 pm

Hey all,

Maybe some feedback to the NPL would be good from punters who have ideas for new venues.

If you have a local, or a place you really like that you think could form a good relationship with the NPL, post here.

Location, prices, atmosphere, anything really. Think about the space needed, what nights could work - what venues are around it etc.

I'm sure this could go a long way in getting some good SOLID venues for the NPL.

Cheers,

David

This is going to come from left-field a bit but Ive always wondered a bit why venues in the city don't go after the Uni student market. I mean, if a venue (lets say UniBar) at Adelaide Uni did one on Fridays at 3pm or midday or even at 7.30pm start (which may be best come to think of it). I think they'd have the numbers to make it profitable, and it'd make for a very youthful crowd too with many new players getting sucked in ... *ahem* introduced to the great fun of NPL.

Otherwise different places will chop and change days, drop and gain tournaments as demand fluctuates for their venues.

I'm not sure about where, but what about when!!!! I know of people that play that are retired & always looking for a game during the week after lunch, would be good for those that don't work or study too. The only day games there ever are, are always weekends, what about weekdays. I know people wouldnt drink as much booze, but they'd probably have lunch & still have a couple. I wouldve thought that most venues during the week would not have too many patrons at around 2pm, so anything extra would be great for them. Just a thought. :D

They've got a large beer garden out the back that rareley gets used in winter, could seat up to 100 I reckon, and they have a number of quite nights during the week that i reckon they would like to strive up some business for. They've got heaters out there that would probably warm things up enough to make playing poker out there comfortable.

I reckon that the Kentish could be a good option for any day/night of the week that the CBD does not have a venue, including weekends as they are a quite pub in the backstreets on North Adelaide that not many people know about.

Sounds great Brice.

Plus, it's your local. Who cares if it's not any good, it's your local ;)

Parking can be an issue in North Adelaide, even more so than the city I think. That could cause issues.

get into them brice, sounds like a nice place

got a question - can anyone hire NPL to run a tournament?

ha what if the local takeaway wanted to hold an NPL event.

or maybe the local supermarket? and u get stamps depending on how much you spend at the supermarket

maybe the local servo could offer NPL stamps instead of 4 cents a litre discount.

:D :D :D :D :D

this one is a little more serious (more a serious question, not that i would be in a position to actually do this)

what about staff teambuilding days? i.e a company could hire NPL to come out during the day and hold a tournament as a teambuilding/morale exercise?

I reckon that's why a lot of CBD venues struggle for numbers sometimes, but this venue is away from the hustle and bustle of North Adelaide, it's parallel to Melbourne Street up the quiet end and there's usually lots of parking available on Stanley St.
