it is something that, 2 months ago, i would NEVER have done, but since watching a lot of the TPE videos it really has a lot of merits to it when you have a 20-40bb stack, because it allows you to manoeuvre postflop. a 3x or even 2.5x bloats the pot and means it is much harder for you to play postflop.
While I do not disagree with the idea (but do question it somewhat when an ante is in play), that AA hand had effective stack of only 8BBs??
@rcon, I also did that, once near the end of a long tourney, which ended up being a massive pot that Id have taken down... But take heart in that Ivey did something similar in last years WSOP with a TV camera on him! LOL, Different sets of mistakes plague live and online poker.
Have you ever called when you meant to fold to a shove?
I also did that once, and worse for me was I sucked out BIGTIME to, and copped an absolute berrating in the chat (which, if I had intentionally called, I would have fully deserved!)

the whole point is to do it WHEN there are antes in place. it allows you to steal very cheaply, but it also means you can pot control. typically if i dont min raise i will make it just over min - i.e at 800/1600 i might make it 1888 or something like that.
there are lots of reasons that min raising is good, i am only starting to experiment with it in the last few weeks as a result of the TournamentPokerEdge videos.
usually i open to the full 3x before antes
2.2-2.5x when i have over 40bb
min raise 20-40bb
shove < 20bb
in this instance i had been min raising every second hand, they had been calling a lot but i was winning by cbetting a lot.
just before this hand i had about 40bb and lost a big pot with AQ into AK, so i thought if i continued min raising then i would get a caller almost certainly.
most of the time i would just shove.

Re: Beat/Vent Thread
Fair enough, you've now added game flow to the decision process, but I was just remarking that you explained about min-raising from 20-40bb and why (post flop manouverability), yet in the hand you posted the effective stack was only 8? just wondering how the explanation fit the original example is all...
You did had over 25BB yourself still.

yeah it was probably non standard because i had aces and because i lost a bigish pot before hand

Re: Beat/Vent Thread
if he only has 8bb (or maybe up to like 12) then i think a min raise is good because it means they might think they have fold equity as well and will shove over you a lot more than if you make it 2.5x.

Re: Beat/Vent Thread
lets say the blinds are 5k/10k. instead of min raising, why not raise to 2150, or 2080 or the like. I think it stops people spaz shoving because 'hey that prick min raised', even though you are still effectively min-raising.
