Good idea.
Rewards those who consistently get good scores, and those who accumulate the most (ie, play the most)

They are the NPL's top ten players. At NPL it's not all about the poker, it's about having fun, supporting your local pubs and clubs and supporting NPL itself. You could be the best (read: luckiest) poker player on the planet, play 25 games, and win every tournament you play in, finish with an average on 90 or some such and I still wouldn't classify you as a top NPL player. A part of the measurement in determining who our top players are, are also those who support us the most, I know most players can't get out and play 6 times a week, but for those who can and do; we wish to reward them as much as possible. I would also like to add that there are other players, such as yourself, David, Des, Big Pete, Andre and many others, who support us in other ways and I am looking forward to arranging a system where we reward you guys for your support as well. I have several ideas.
Or should we just look at rewarding those who are decent poker players? And completely disregard our staunch, loyal (maybe not so good poker players) supporters.
I know this doesn't make as much sense as I would like it too.
And I know we are never going to satisfy 100% of the people but for now this is the best system. Some people may keep knocking it and saying it is stupid, they are entitled to their opinion and I appreciate them expressing it. But again I say if you can find another means to rewarding our loyal supporters that play 80+ games please put those ideas in writing and I will address them.

The reward is they get to play NPL more than others ;) That's reward in itself!

I do understand Garth - don't worry. Yes poker can be lucky/unlucky and I respect that.. and averages/points/whatever can appear flawed because of it. The current system just takes that to another level.

People play the NPL because it's fun, and they get to hang out with friends (both old and new), playing a game they continue to master. That's the reward ;)

Instead of the current system why not have this.

Top 25 based on Average (under the old system)
Top 25 based on Total Points gained.

Thoughts?

So then we disadvantage those "good" players who can't attend the 60+ or even bigger venues. Just because you win one Roulettes event and take down 150 points to really boost your total points scored doesn't mean your the best either.
And again this system only promotes play at the larger venues not all venues across the board, if we are pushing players to play in larger venues what happens to the smaller or new venues? How do we build those numbers?
Nice idea though we could work on that

That is the most optimistic post I have ever read.

By the way - VERY clever way for the NPL :)

Everyone in the top 50 would be clamoring to play more and more this week in order to make their averages higher without the risk of them going down.

I'm not stupid. I bought it up at the meeting, everyone looked at each other and then said "why didn't we think of this earlier?"
