Re: Prize packs for 2009
I think we all would like to see the DVD dropped from the prize packs... or maybe it can be re-allocated to the 1st person eliminated from the tournament.
I'd also like to see some new prizes too. NPL Stubby Holders, drink coasters, glasses maybe? All comes down to costs I guess.
I was going to say poker books, but I think the costs would be too high. Unless you could get some sort of deal done.
A new, better quality hat would be awesome, as I'm still waiting to get a black one!!

Re: Prize packs for 2009
overall, i think i am happy with the prizes, although i don't really see that much of a need for 2nd and third prizes
i reckon it would be much better to put the money spent on bottle openers, hats, little coolers, DVDs, should be put into a better prize for first.
but other than that, i think the prizes are pretty good.
maybe the addition of a venue champion trophy for the end of the 10 week season would be good - i know a lot of people (including myself) who had states wrapped up pretty early last season (closure of venues or being waay in front at the halfway point) so there was no incentive for me at the other venue i played at. i finished 3rd at the venue that closed, and 4th at the other venue, but i may have put more effort into finishing first at the other venue if there was something riding on it.

chips or similar for the final table need to stay though (although they could be cheaper quality - don't need to be tournament quality chips)

Re: Prize packs for 2009
The prizes that are being offered were good.... 6 months ago. When you throw the same crap at us every week, it tends to grow a little tiresome. There is nothing particularly wrong with the prizes being offered - we would just like some variety.
Chips or keyrings DO need to stay for the FT, thats an NPL tradition. I love collecting all my chips, and I know many players that are the same. Des hit the nail on the head - new prizes would be great, but it all comes down to costs. We had a thread like this earlier in the year, some great ideas were bought up, I forget where it is though...

Re: Prize packs for 2009
i think the large trophy is getting redundant. My 2 plastic ones sit on my stereo doing nothing, and any extras would do the same.
But getting a keyring/chip for FT needs to stay.

Re: Prize packs for 2009
I liked the glass "tombstone" trophies 'cause they don't take up too much room. I do realise they don't immediately look like poker trophies, but..... they do look far more classy (if pub poker can be classy!)
I'd rather all the prizes got to first spot, excluding the chips/keyring of course, allowing prizes of a higher quality perhaps?
I'd also like to see venue prizes for end of season, but do realise this is something the venues would have to stump up for.

Re: Prize packs for 2009
I disagree here guys... you have to have a 2nd place prize. It sucks busting your ass in a tournament, to finish 2nd, and have nothing to show for it. Anyway, most venues offer 1st and 2nd prizes, so why shouldn't NPL? Winner takes all is great for the winner, but sucks for 2nd place.
I'm happy to drop the 3rd place prize though.

Re: Prize packs for 2009
second place is the first lodser des
they don't have to be big trophies for a win, but something that the non-regular player would be proud of it they only ever won a single tourney.
what about for the smaller prizes, people getting a choice of things they want - i.e bottle opener, cooler, hat, stubbie holder, dare i say it, DVD
then it will be harder to get the whole collection of prizes.

Re: Prize packs for 2009
But by that logic, Des, why not give the bubble points too? And then what happens to the new bubble.
Gotta draw a line somewhere....
