Question of the Day - 01/09/08

Postby muzzington » Mon Sep 01, 2008 1:27 pm

Scene

Blinds: $2/$4

Your Stack: $414
Opponents Stack: $424

You're playing in a tough six-max game online. There are no soft spots in this game and you're just playing to your blinds before you leave. In this hand, it's folded to you in the cut-off and you raise to $14 with [ad] [ah]. The button calls, as do both the blinds, and you go four-handed to a [kd] [qc] [7s] flop. The small blind checks and the big blind bets $34.

What should you do?

Raise a solid amount, but not all in. I'd want to see how strong the opponent's hand is, but wouldn't go all in as it's only likely to be called if they'd flopped two pair or better.
Check out my ample flop....

Definitely raise (probably about $90), you still have an overpair which is most likely good. If the initial raiser then re-raises you would have to consider two-pair or a set depending on your read of the player.

i also think the go would be to raise a big amount - enough that they are going to lay down anything except maybe AK, but small enough that you can get away if they re-raise all in holding KK or QQ or 77

One thing I removed from the question was the author wrote "the big blind d0nk-bets $34."

Only things beating you at this point are KK, QQ, or KQ.

You have AK or AQ completely smashed.

I'd raise hard, for sure. Quite happy to take it then and there if in front.

Agree with not going all-in.
Pardon me, but I think you'll find that's a shovel. See you next Tuesday!

if he is a naughty d word, a re-raises all in, you might still be calling anyway.

so would it be better to raise all in on the flop and make him call for all his chips?

I'd be calling, not raising.

Reasoning behind this decision?
