Raising 75% of your stack pre

Postby Bacon » Fri Jul 02, 2010 3:24 pm

In your mind, does this show strength or weakness?

I believe, when you are putting in your chips like this, that if you are strong, you should put the remainder in anyway, since post flop, you are priced in as it is. And if you are strong, you don't mind getting chips in pre-flop.

And does position matter here? Cos post-flop, most times the chips are going in anyway.

I haz example, but want to see some replies first. (like 3 pages ;) )

Always strong, all the time, about 80% of the time.

Come on man, how about some definitive scenarios. Is this late, early, middle, bubble stages of the tournament? Is your villain LAG, TAG, Passive, Spew monkey?

Playing a lot of super turbos as I do, I find the 75% is more often than not those who want to rep strength, rather than those who actually have it and they'll then stack off when you push in. 80+% of the time you're facing 66-TT/AT/AJ hands, sometimes even KT+ (only really $2-5 BI tho).

This is all skewed by the fact we've only got 10bb to start with of course.

Hence why scenarios is important.

Strength, no one is folding after they open that much.

As Garth said, scenario's are important however.

Hadn't seen much action from villain, so I'll say TAG.

6-max, Early stages 150/300.
Stacks - Villain $2K
Hero - $7K

Villain - SB
Hero - UTG + 1

Hero limps with K9o
CO calls
Button folds

Villain raises to $1,500

Straight fold, or gamboooooooooooool?

In that scenario, I'm actually reading villain as having a better starting hand than K9 but scared to play post flop.

I'm thinking weak Aces like A9suited to AJoff and pockets from 66 - JJ possibly. It should also be noted that villain only has 7bb's, the fact he is not committing his whole stack leads me to believe he really is not happy about his hand, subconcious reaction.

I really lean towards K9 having at least 35% equity against villains range (still no odds to call) but if you want to gamble away a 1.3 of your stack then go for it.

But here's what I have to say:

1.) FOLD PREwith all King high hands from EP
2.) If playing RAISE UTG - Stop open limping
3.) FOLD after 3 bet from villain
4.) If playing (like a spewtastic monkey) then re ship into the middle. At worst you will be facing JJ or AJ in this spot.

I just don't know what's worse, your play or villain shipping in 75% of stack on MASSIVE overbet.

Was there any other limpers between UTG and SB?
