The impossible happened.

Postby Goose » Thu Mar 13, 2008 12:11 am

Playing at the Pennington on Monday with a overall position of 3rd i was looking sweet to stay in the top 5
I had a 4pt lead over 4th and a 20pt lead over 5th with 6th to 9th 23-30pts away.
If i hit points i was home BUT if i DNP the chasing players had to hit points with some needing final table. With this scenario i was still feeling confident as i DNP after a shocking run of bad beats and being run down by chasers that wouldnt fold no matter what i did. But thats another story and poker.

BUT

It happened
Ben (position 4) made points 12th
Zeljko (position 6) final table 4th
Frosty (position 7) final table 9th

Overall final placings
Top 2 didnt change
But
Zeljko finished 3rd
Ben finished 4th
Frosty finished 5th
Myself 6th (3pts behind)

Luckily i held onto 1st at the Pooraka on Tuesday night and into the finals

ob both tuesday night AND wednesday night I saw a case of 'this guy HAS to win to ruin everything for me'

and yep, both of them actually happened.

who says it's not a spectator sport? :)

P.S.

'me' doesn't actually mean me personally
Pardon me, but I think you'll find that's a shovel. See you next Tuesday!

I had a very similar scenario to this at Waterloo last Tuesday.

I was sitting 16th there and needed to finish 15th or more to play off for the Vegas trip.

With one more game there to go I figured if I hit points then I should be fine... Not the case...

I ended up coming 8th and walked away a happy man... Only to find out the next day that I'd dropped a spot to 17th and wouldn't be playing off for Vegas :(

I was still happy that I made 17th considering I'd played 2 - 3 less games then the top 20... But it still hurt...
