Another WSOP Hypothetical

Postby Swanky » Fri Jul 09, 2010 11:55 am

This one was bounced around my other forum about 5 or 6 years ago.

It's the ME of the WSOP, very first hand of the tourny and you are dealt AA in the BB. Everyone folds around to the SB, who, like a nugget shoves all in.

Do you call?

Now before you answer, snap call that's an easy answer, read the question again.

10k is a lot of money, money I'm sure most of us don't have tucked down the side of the couch.

It's the first hand of the biggest game of the poker calender.

Do you want to be first out of this event?

For the record, I call, but there would be a brick factory working over time in my pants!
:D

We bandied this around a couple of years ago before the first Berri deep stack - I can't remember what the consensus was.

In an highly amusing twist, I ended up getting deal AA first hand, playing it moderately bad on the turn and losing to a runner runner straight.

Personally, I call.

Just out of curiosity, what are the start blinds for your 30k start stack? 100/200?

30k stack, 50/100

this is a MUST call. if you are worried about how much money is on the line, then you will never make it very far anyway, and you are just dead money

Folding here is crazy.

You will have some bad luck somewhere along the line in any tournament, no difference if it is in the first hand or 100th.

A more difficult question might be what to do if it is the money bubble, u are the 2nd shortest stack in the room and look down @ AA on the button - that is when things get freaky & arguements for folding gain weight.
May all your pain be champagne!

I think if you are second shortest stack you still have to call.

Its more interesting if you were on the bubble with the second biggest stack, and the big stack shoves.

Or even more interesting if you were on the november 9 bubble in the same scenario.
Riskers gamble, experts calculate.

WSOP - Call

Bubble - FOLD. Had Aces on the bubble. Would not play them again and risk another sick beat like the one I got in an Aussie Millions Sat.

Note the signature.
Note to self: Fold Aces on the bubble.......

UHHHH a good question !!!

I have folded AA second hand of a Tournament, now my theory is if you get your money in good then you cant do much more, but when i folded it was the way the hand played out .... I knew i was up against AA and KK it was a 3way pot and i couldn't Justify my stack for a best case split !!!

I would have lost the hand and busted out and i was right AA v KK ~ KK hit a King on the turn so Aces were drawing dead

BUT if it was SB nugget jamb all in and its heads up , I SNAP CALL !!!

I think an even better hypothetical is, as Paul suggest, a multi way all in.

Table full of maniacs and UTG raises standard, Button 3 bets his whole stack, SB snap calls, you look down at AA.

Now what do you do?

Snap call even quicker!! That kind of action means they probably have big made hands already, i.e. big pocket pairs, or at a stretch AK. You have all of these smashed, so get it in and do Caleb's trick.....Stand up, throw them face up on the table and yell "Come run me down!!!"....

How many opportunities like this will you ever have in a major tourney?? You have to get it in here...
