Poker Books / Reading ? ?

Postby Sinitster » Sun Jul 18, 2010 10:40 am

Hi ,

Just wondering what books peoples have and what they recommend for reading ?

eg. Is Phil Gordon's little green book a good one to read ?

I obtained approx 100 books/articles and don't know where to start !

thanks in advance guys :)

Phil

prolly in the wrong section but i thought us beginners need to know where to start ...
When choosing between the 2 evils , I like to choose the 1 i haven't tried yet !

this is the right section mate

best to start with the classics if you ask me - super system II is excellent. some of the things are a little outdated, but they are excellent.

i haven't read harrington on holdem fully yet, but it also gets excellent reviews

Harrington on holdem is a good read, its a tad dated also, but good for building solid foundations.

It all depends what kind of game you want to excel in.

One great book for Tournys is Kill Everyone. (i have a copy if someone wants to buy it ;)) i have finished it and it elaborates on the new era Of LAG type play

I have kill everyone, and people can borrow it if they want. But yeah its pretty good. Especially for tournament play. There is also a good chapter written by Mark Vos specifically surrounding 6 max cash games which was good.

All of Harringtons & Phil Gordons books are excellent for the way they make a point - then review the teaching with practical examples/exercises.

Good for beginners and intermediates alike.

I have the following books but just dont know where to start

What everybody is saying- Joe Navarro
Read em and reap- Joe Navarro
Phil Gordons Little green book
Phil Gordons Little blue book
Kill Phil
The Theory of poker- David Slansky
Super System- Doyle Brunson
Harrington on hold em vol 1, 2, 3
Full tilt poker strategy guide.

I have read the first two and loved them but when it come to the others just dont know where to start. I have read the first couple of chapters of both The Theory of poker and also the full tilt strategy guide. Can anyone recommend a starting point from these books.

Out of those I would say Kill Phil or Super System, both of which are really good. Lee Nelson has recently released an updated version of Kill Everyone will sections by Elky.

Harrington is good for when you first start out in poker but I think a lot of the stuff you would be well versed in Gayle. Can't comment too much on Phil Gordon's books.

The theory of poker is really good as well.

To be honest, you should read them all!
