So what I'm intitled to call it how i see it.

Give me a good reason why table draws should not be the norm.

The NPL is about free, fun poker, a place that you can play some poker with your mates and have a good time.

If the punters suddenly had seat allocations forced upon them at regular season events, ALOT of them would cease to turn up, as the option to play poker on the same table as their family/friends would have been taken away.

Wrong again

When cash prizes are awarded for a position on the State leaderboard and some regional leaderboard, and a direct entry to the state final, then things have changed from friendly pub poker for a lot of players.

I have seen too much cheating this season by mates & family members sitting together and manipulation of the drinks cards to give some players an advantage.

I dont care if its been done to death before, there are new forum members who may have a different view to you and may or may not want to express their view but its their option.

Did hear at 1 venue this week where a father and son playing at the same table after a player went all in there was a discussion along the lines of who should call the all in eventually the father called the all in because his son suggested that he had the bigger stack and a better chance of winning.

The father ended up winning the hand, the player who lost was very irate because of the table talk and felt it was not within the spirit of the rules.

Or could these 2 have some sort of signal system as to who playes what hands, I cannot recall ever seeing them raise a bet against each other.

I see your point gundog... but why aren't you bringing this up with the TD at the time?

the only way to stamp this sort of thing out is to bring it up with the TD. then they will most probably just move one of the players to a different table, and problem is solved.

the worst thing that the npl could do is introduce random seating.
part of the appeal is to sit down with your mates or new friends and continue that battle with them that has been going on all season.

case in point - i claim (rightly or wrongly) that i have developed a read on our region leader dillywilly, and constantly annoy him by telling him this and sitting on his table. i did this 2 weeks in a row, and lo and behold he didnt place those two weeks, while i made final tables. i wanted to test myself out against the best in the comp, and i think i did pretty well.

i love this sort of thing - lighthearted competition - im sure he loves it as well, and he has even admitted that i have made a lot good reads on him!

i like making new friends and interacting with people that i otherwise never would - this would be hard if you couldnt sit down with the same bunch of people every week.

having said this, cheating is definitely not on - just speak to the TD, and get the player moved - pretty simple.

Unfortunatly the TD watched the whole incident, remember some TD's can be intimidated into not doing anything by the mear statue of the player.

I try and not sit with the same players every night because I think you play better if you have play your own hand, and play it on its percentages or my tactics.

just for the record I have hit points in over 50% of the times visiting the felt, and my best result out of my area was a 5th at PHCC where I had played only 1 player before, I played my own game not trying to worry what other player may or may not have, I bet, raised and folded on the strength of my cards my decision was made as soon as I saw the flop, turn and if required the river.
I play fast, i dont procrastinate when it my turn to bet, and I show my card very often.........and yes I'm on my way to state final.

well done mate on the state finals - i have no qualms about who you play against. i agree that playing different types of player makes you a better player, and i also like to do this as much as possible.

i dont sit on the same table every week, but i like to be able to choose where i sit. for instance this sunday, i have to beat nick, and mick to make it into the state finals.

i will hopefully try and get them to sit on my table, and play to the death so to speak. but if they dont want to do this, then thats their choice - each to their own once again.

if the TD isn't doing anything about it, i am sure garth would like to know this.

Unfortunatly I'm a country player and we see almost 50% of the players at various venues you do tend to sit with players you know, I do try to avoid the wildcat players, who will play almost anything sometime they kill you other times they chip you up.

Just for the record I like the way the TD at Pooraka Footy Club runs the show, I was impressed with the control and command he had over the entire night.

For the record gundog, if the same question had been asked of me before i started playing with the NPL, I would have agreed completely with you. In fact it was the first thing i made comment on just before sitting down for my first game was that seat assignments should be employed.

But my opinion changed pretty soon after that. Sure, the NPL offer up some awesome prizes and incentives, which has many players treating it as serious business every time they sit down. But this doesn't mean it ceases to be what it is; a free pub poker league. Hell, I have no problem with allocated seating at Finals, or at places that aren't free money entries(in fact it's expected), but i'd be disappointed to see it brought in here.

TD's being intimidated by players and letting them get away with rule breaches because of it? This is hardly an argument toward allocated seating. It's the TD's job NOT to let the players run the show. If they are letting players intimidate them into doing this, then they are not doing their job properly. Get in contact with Garth if you feel this is occurring.
