Cazz, if you think that way you can't then claim to be sexist. Saying you are being sexist makes your whole post pointless.

To think Chelsea was given her job because she is female is just wrong. At BEST, she might have been given the opportunity to prove herself at a lower level because of her gender, but that's it.

She still had to prove herself and do the hard yards.

Christ, she's been there 5 years. It's a non-issue.

I actually really like Samantha Lane, I think she does a great job.

To me, yes. To you, no.
That's my point :)

Sexism is unfair. And you obviously don't believe you're being unfair.

Quoting Nevah Play JJ
I am being sexist!
Women have no place in commentating or umpiring AFL football..

Caroline, I have to say a was quite offended by your post. Being a female and having done the hard yards myself in a predominantly male dominated field, your words are like a slap in the face.

My personal opinion is people can choose what they wish to do whether it is umpire AFL matches, lead the country or work in the mines as long as they have a passion for it and are just as qualified/experienced to do so. The fact that this female umpire made a mistake in an AFL match has nothing to do with the fact she is a female, but the fact that she is human.

This has ALWAYS been a mans sport, played by men!

In high school, I also was part of women's AFL league and really enjoyed playing the sport. I would have hated not being able to play as I was the best marksman in my team and also made me really fit.

I also say this as someone that did break into a male dominated workforce, I was the only female out of over 200 men in a technical field.
But even I have my limits.

You just contradict your argument in this sentence. If you are all for non-equality, why are you working in a industry dominated by males?

How could you not question who the female commentator is sleeping with? She has nothing but negative press about her and absolutely no following that I can see, yet week after week channel 10 put her on. I even have the same thoughts in regards to Samantha Lane. Who the hell put her where she is.. she is on a show for comedians and yet offers absolutely no comedic value at all. Thank god someone is there to write her thoughts down, so she has something to read!

Very distasteful Caroline, you make its sound like just because she is female she can't think for herself. Shameful statement.

Women umpires? Im fine with that.

Women commentaters? Im fine with that.

Kellie Underwoods monotone, excitementless, constant calling the wrong name of players calls?

I ain't fine with that!!!!

She is awful, and not cos she is a female.

Trishan, bombers fan? That explains alot.

:)
May all your pain be champagne!

Kellie Underwood is a horrible commentator.
But so are many male commentators. It isn't because of her gender.

I like Sam Lane (who is by the way, Tim Lane's daughter)
I liked Christie Malthouse (who is obviously Mick's daughter) around the boundary.

No one questions them getting their jobs.

Chelsea the goal umpire has done a brilliant job over 5 years.
