And let me tell you when they are at a NPL venue they support it bigtime $$$$$, not like the large number of multi-game players who turn up, register, get beat, walk out and head for a later game somewhere else.

Total contribution to the Venue- NIL, total contribution to NPL- they turned up.

as everyone in npl knows MATTY G happens to be one of those multi-game players but how much more do u wanna try n have a dig at "multi-game players" who "turn up, register, get beat, walk out and head for a later game somewhere else." do u know how many of these "multi-game players" not only contribute to alot of the venues they play but they massively support NPL. have a quick look at the teams event or even better people who r these "M.-G.P.'S" how many actually gave a SECOND seat away 2 the sky city or the aussie millions promotions n u tell me then that they dont support venues or npl. I didnt even get 2 the end of this topic before i had to "vent"!!!!

ARRRRRRRRRRRGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!

Training regimes are along ways away. I have been given the opportunity to take these on with the help of Mel Judah. I have yet to organise another meeting with Mel as he is based on London and currently on the WPT circuit and won't be back in Australia until after the WSOP.
He is keen to start these NPL bootcamps up and to have someone of this nature work closely with players will be, to quote Pete, "AWESOME".

I second that!!!! Mel Judah is a very accomplished poker player and to have somebody who sat at a world series final table with Stu Ungar giving advice to poker players of varied skill levels that are part of a social free poker leauge would be unbelievably "AWESOME" and incredibly valuable 2 players who did want to step up their game to that next level!!!!

DO IT GARTH, DO IT!!!! HAHAHAHA

Over the last couple/3 weeks there have been some incidents in free poker leagues around the state that have been totally unacceptable. I am of the opinion that very strict rules need to be in place with regard to any type of violence at any venue where poker is being held, whether the person/persons are still in the tournament or not.

Last Sunday 9/3 we were advised by Matt the TD at the Holdfast Hotel that the word "donkey" was no longer acceptable, he went on to tell us that we would receive one warning for a first breach, then be expelled from the tourny, but could come back the following week, on a no warning basis, another infringement would result in a 1 season ban then a further infringement would result in an "indefinite" ban. I would really like some clarification on what the term "indefinite" ban means. Matt went on to say something like it will then depend on how well you suck up to Garth (If I haven't quoted exactly I do apologize).

Personally I feel that the manner of speech is more important than the words used. Some people can be very biting with their speech without swearing or using the term "donkey".

It is important that rules be put in place with regard to player conduct, I am prepared to play within these rules. and if I breach them I am aware of the consequences, but I wonder if perhaps there needs to be a modicum of common sense from TD's with regard to the manner of speech as well as the words used.

Hope that some of this is constructive.
Cheers

Based on recent events, the NPL most definitely have very strict rules regarding violence at, or outside an NPL venue.

NPL will always reward loyalilty. Not suggesting that you are not loyal cougar, But answer this one question for me....

Player a) averages 9 games per season.
Player b) averages 26 games per season.
Player c) averages 60 games pers season.

Which of these players would the NPL most likely to reward? and why?

High reqards to all forum Contributers.

Hmmm, I would be interested to look at just what % of people end up with 60 games. While individually the high game players contrinute more, I would say the bulk of players would fit into the low to mid range - and cumulatively contribute much much more.

The NPL may find that they are better off focussing on the low and mid-range players. If this group is big enough, encouraging them along to only a couple more games per season may be much more beneficial than having a couple of the high game players rock up to dozens more games (and lets face it - how many more can some of these rock up to?).

And before someone points out - yes, I am aware that the NPL does promote itself to the low-mid game players, and by and large they do a good job. But the NPL should also take a bit of constructive criticism (constructive) and take suggestions on board, particularly if from the non-regular players - who after all are those we'd like to see rock up more.
Check out my ample flop....

Hans,

I think you will find Garth more than willing to accomodate "constructive" Criticism. Not unwarranted arguing over a moot point.

Attracting those non regular players is always going to be an issue. But the fact is, how much watered down can a competition get before you lose the respect and bragging rights for getting into the state champs?

If the system is standard, everyone knows that the top 5 from a venue or top 50 averages over 15 games. There are no wildcards, there are no extra seats given for special circumstances.

So to attract the non regular players who feel that maybe 1 venue a week is too much. Then there is not much else we can do. Even 2 games a week can give you a healthy average on the top 50 leaderboard.

So for these players, whether they play serious or not, there are prizes on the night. Which gives them an incentive to play more.

They play at another venue, they then have the region leaderboard prizes, and a regional final.

If that won't grab their attention. Then i guess we will leave them to their own devices.

For those players that play at other leagues. How do we attract them? Thats where the construction comes from. But do know that any changes to the format of the game, e.g. larger blinds, bigger start stacks e.t.c affect the length and time of the games, which ultimately will end up with the pubs and clubs paying a larger fee, or for staff members to feel that their pay is too short. Fine line with everything.

Brett.

I can understand where Cougar is coming from the top 50 is almost impossible for non metro players to acheive, 1 player from the Riverland was in the top 50 @49 the last results from few venues were still to published so he may have dropped off the list, this player has access to a maximum of 5 venues which equals a maximum 50 visits to the felt.

Myself I will be cutting back the amount of games I play this season, most likely to my local venue and the occasional trip tp another venue out of town, last season I played at 4 venues in my region to hit these venues I had to travel over 400k per week this becomes a tad expensive when you pay for your fuel, drinks etc.

I enjoyed playing at all the venues save one, I only played this venue 1 time, an overpriced poor quality meal and being given 1 stamp for what I drink where every other venue gives me 2, so I voted with my feet by not returning, its their loss my gain saving me 200k and 2 hrs of travel.

At all the other venues a majority of the players make it an enjoyable evening with freindly banter and good poker.

Season 1, I made the top 10 for the region and t5 at a venue which qualified me for state however travel cost and time constraints will most likely see me play 15 or so Tourneys this season which will make it almost impossible for me to make the state or regional leaderboards, unlike city players who can make up to 11 per week its fairly easy to rack up 15 points finishes.

So with that in mind constructive ideas.

Drop the existing qualification to the state final.

T10 from each venue play in a regional final, the T15 from each region play the State Final, that equates to 205 players for the state final.
42.7 percent of all statistics are made up on the spot.
