Ok this is just an idea
Currently we play a 10 week season with a final and the odd novelty day (total 50wks)
Why not reduce the season to 9 weeks
Have a weekly winners sit & Go shootout for all venues (week 10)
Season Final (week 10)
Novelty day (team event etc week 10)
Venue Special (week 10 (no points) for players not in the weekly winners)
Week 50
Same as week 10,20,30,40,50
PLUS
Best of the Best Invitation Final
All winners of each season sit & Goes meet to decide the best
How and what is offered for prizes
Dunno
Perhaps making the top 50 an annual prize with the current season prize money doubled and the surplus put into other events (Sit & Go and Best of the Best)
But im surely some one has ideas

Re: Season Formatt Idea
Simple (I hope)
Reduce the current 10 week point scoring season to 9
The 10th week of each season have the 9 weekly venue winners play off in a sit & go format at the venue
Finals stay as is, but played in the 10th week of each season.
This is done for 5 seasons
Then just before xmas have the winners from each seasons sit & Go venues (5 players) invited to a best of the best tournament. This could be a sit and go format or freezout tournament

Re: Season Formatt Idea
i think the SNG idea might just be adding another level of complication that is probably not needed.
in addition, the 9 week season sounds good in theory (leaving a week for finals/special events,) but in practice, it would be losing at least 10% in revenue from the NPL as regular events would not be run
business wise, it won't happen

Re: Season Formatt Idea
Business wise it could work.
You still have the regular night/day game but for no points.
Perhaps prizes etc
So venues would still get their regular patronage during the 10th week.
The Sit & Go format shouldnt be too much of a headache as it would only consist of the 9 weekly winners.
In fact the yearly Sit & Go Invitational Final could be an extra money spinner

Re: Season Formatt Idea
i like your idea goose, but i think that that this could still be accomodated into a 10 week season.
if the tournaments are still going to run, then why not make them for points?
with the SNG format, maybe this could be run as a shootout tournament within each region?

Re: Season Formatt Idea
Yes good idea
You could have the venues Sit & Go
Then the venues winners play in a Regional
Then the regional winners on to the yearly Best of the Best

i was more thinking along the lines of scrapping a venue SNG, but instead having a single shootout tournament from all of the venue winners in the region.
most likely you could work it that each venue gets a table full of venue winners, and from there it progresses.
complicating factors would be no-shows and multi-venue winners
from this, there will be a single winner in the region, which plays in a tourney against other winners in other regions.
ha imagine if we could have every sort of tournament that has been talked about on the forum? i think its good that the NPL is open to all sorts of different suggestions.
i think that more side games are awesome - not that regular NPL is boring or anything, but i think it adds something.
man NPL is awesome - imagine what would happen if there wasn't NPL? darts? LOL
