If a venue starting at the end of the season gives people like Colin and Mary Kelly a chance to play at the state final, then great.
People are too wound up in the state final anyway. It's just a nice added perk of playing NPL, which is great anyway.

Re: The LOWEST ranked state finals seat ??
you are right des, the fairest way would be to only allow venues to start up at the start of a season.
but imagine this scenario - a venue wants NPL, and garth says - no, u have to wait 3 weeks to be able to start up.
what does this venue do for 3 weeks? what would you do as a venue owner if APL or someone else said that the venue can start straight away, and whats more, heaps of players are going to come because of the possibility of state finals places?
you can understand why they are allowed qualification only after games - having extra people get into the state finals "cheaply" is better than not having the venue at all

Still haven't quite heard what you would say to the venue wanting to start up at a time that just happened to be around week 8 of a season......
Pardon me, but I think you'll find that's a shovel. See you next Tuesday!

Cmon Kosta, I know you have confidence in your own game but would you really want to run the risk by doing it like that?

yeah i know - nothing is ideal
maybe if the season is less than 5 weeks, only the venue winners make it through to the state finals? i.e only 2 would get through?
but then what if you finish second every week it was running?
its tough, and although a little bit of a joke, it think the only way is to either let the top 5 through, or just tell them to hold off for a week or two.

Re: The LOWEST ranked state finals seat ??
Some venues are harder than others
Some have more people
Some have more friends
Some don't have regular players
Some have better players
In the end, there's 700 odd people at the state finals.. who get there in a myriad of ways.
For the sake of making things easier - having a new venue at the end of a season and still having the same conditions is ok by me.
Besides, if anyone is that keen on the state finals - I'm sure most would travel a little distance to get to a venue like this.

Seriously what difference does it make?
I see both reasons, but I am definitely on the side of qualifying them for finals here.
Let's look at Colin (sorry dude). He holds his own, plays and supports NPL a lot. Just missed out on making top 50. But new venue starts up and he gets his finals seats....totally cool
Look at the people that have qualified, they are well known people around the traps.
that is my two cents. Business is Business everywhere.

For starters it isnt even a new venue coz they play there every monday evening. Its not that it worries me personally coz I have qualified its just not fair for others. Again this is my opinion!
Can I just clarify who you feel is disadvantaged by these two venues giving this opportunity late in the season Kosta? Not having a go, I'm just unsure whether you mean other players besides yourself who have already qualified the "long" way, or the yet-to-qualify players who were unable to get to these events?

Re: The LOWEST ranked state finals seat ??
How do we know it's the venue wanting another day? Garth has said before he wondered if the venue got 70 due to the time, or the state final.
It could've been a marketing ploy, to see the likelihood of early games.
Tonsley could've been contemplating leaving, and NPL said "if we can get xx number of people here for a game, will you stay?"
This was the first season I know of that 2 venues joined near the end. All other seasons, either venues have closed early, or not started, where the full season wasn't played.
It adds another dimension, and for only another 10 players (remembering that about 100 players who qualify don't show to State Finals) it's not worth the whinge. But it's worth a debate.
