NotHappy wrote:If I wanted to stay "off the grid" I would have fake documents already and would have no hesitation of sending them through as it just validates the fake documents even more. Sure there are people out there who are more than happy to give away their details to anyone who asks for them but they usually end up on A Current Affair with some sob story.
No it's not a scam, I knew that when my account got disabled. Its the account getting disabled so you can't even play when I've been playing for over a year that sucks. Sure if I don't provide the details i want then stop me from making transfers/withdrawals until I do. I'm fine with that but to just disable the account? Whats to stop me from opening up a new account??
This is all moot though because as mentioned 888pl doesn't have any control over 888. I was merely asking the question if anything could be done and trying to find out why I needed to provide these details if I'm not withdrawing and why the account gets total disabled. Sending the documents is the only way and that's my choice to do it or not, simple. It appears as though there are a lot of other ppl who have had this happen to them so it may come as a heads up to others.
BTW "NotHappy", welcome to the forum. What is your real name and where do you play?

Nothappy as you can see from my post I was not at all happy about the being asked to provide the documents. My scanner wouldn't work and after about an hour of trying I just started banging it up and down ( this is when my son came home and advised me I did not have a driver installed
) . I then made a call to the player they had mentioned in the email and ranted for what seemed like an eternity. He just laughed at me as I never get angry and that made me angrier. I do understand your frustration.
That was a while ago. When I calmed down I realized that these type of moves are made to ensure the security of all playing poker. I don't want to play at a site that takes any chance with security and I don't think any other player would either. The measures seem extreme but sites are dealing with a lot of peoples money and more importantly have a reputation to uphold. Would you play at a site that had questionable security? And you think about it how many organizations do you call that insist on mountains of information before they speak to you. Have you called the tax office lately or spoken to your bank, phone company or your energy provider when they don't believe you are who you say you are? This is all done to protect you in the long run. Once I calmed down I scanned and sent the info as I really had nothing to hide. A couple more emails and I was up and running and no problems since
You have been given some really good advice here on how to check the validity of the request and if it is genuine, send the info and go back to playing a wonderful game hassle free.

Something like that happened to me after I got banned & tried to get back in to 888 . They wanted all my details , i,e. Drivers license , utilities bill . lol . I don't have either . Funnier even was my Sports Bet account . Which was given too me by 888pl was closed down a few months later , would not except the same form of I.D that I had sent to 888 . & is still in limbo FFS .
Harps was this the Sportsbet voucher that you got that you then ended up having to get online to use?
This is how a lot of the online companies get people to try their sites. Offer a free bonus bet or bonus dollars for people to try their site, if they like it they stick around and wager more. Minor outlay for major gains. Especially if they are raking between 5-10% of the online pool. Why sportsbet lines usually start at 1.95 or 1.87 before any money is invested.
If it was a card with a code that you had to enter it comes down to the same thing. It is illegal for Australian Companies to share any consumer data with any 3rd party. Imagine if Telstra, Optus, 3 and Vodafone all gave their customer details to Coca Cola, who then sent out a can of one of the new Mother drinks to that list.
Direct marketing is a powerful tool for most business and that is why the government has put in privacy clauses and big punishments if it is breached.
If that wasn't the situation let me know so i can understand and see how it all fits in.

Sportspick is not Sportsbet.
Sportsbet.com.au is ran out of the NT under their gaming laws. Its a bookmaker that has been in the industry two or three years now. Mainly to give an avenue for gamblers to be able to get better odds on matches vs the TAB. Australia has a fairly sizable gambling population and thats why there are a lot of sportsbook agencies opening up.
As for asking more, it is a legal requirement at most gambling places to offer up 100 points of ID. Sportsbet falls under Australian Law, and that is a mandatory requirement. Bank accounts require the same, TAB accounts require it. Even Gaming licences. Usually it only takes around 3 pieces of ID, e.g. Drivers Licence is 40, credit card is 35, Medicard card is 25, to get you across the line.

Re: WTF? Account disabled!
Sorry Harps,
But I have now re read your posts for the fourth time and I am still shaking my head in bewilderment.
Which sports betting site is it? How long ago did you sign up? And for the second time: because you give your details to us does not mean we pass them on to third parties or even partner companies.
I think I explained everything satisfactorily in my post as to why these measures are in place and why this information is asked for? What is so difficult to understand to comprehend about my comments?
The sports betting industry and regulations governing it vary greatly from generic online gaming (including poker) especially when the majority of online gaming sites are based overseas and all sports betting sites are based in Australia and required to adhere to Australian regulations.
We do have some of the most stringent laws and regulations governing the sports betting industry and they are constantly updating and getting changed as the market is becoming more saturated with providers but yet it remains the fastest growing industry within Australia.
Brett explained it the best; for all forms of financial transactions of a continued nature with a third party provider 100 points of ID must be supplied. The fact that a JP now has to sign a stat dec for you tells me that there are several things that coud have occurred:
1.) You have had a previous account with this company and there may be concerns of multi accounting.
2.) You have breached T and C's of the company and the account has been closed
3.) You provided incorrect details which could not be provided by ID submission.
4.) You provided ID which did not match that of the details you provided upon registration.
In the end, because 888PL launched the promotion or introduced you, the consumer, to the company does not mean that we are always ale to assist with issues with said company. We protect our databases greatly and do not pass on your details to third parties; would you rather us protect your details or pass them on to third parties so you receive even more marketing messages than ever before?
Just look at what NPL did last week with the data that we had collected as NPL? Not only are we annoyed about it but I am sure there are still players out there scratching their head mumbling "What does EOI mean?"
