Re: Free Roll Poker @ Venue "Dead & Buried" ???

Postby 15GIZMO » Wed Jan 26, 2011 1:13 am

I love my poker like the rest of us do, but I'm dammed if I'm getting a second job just to support this bad habit.

3 nights a week freeroll poker was the go for us costing us a very minimum of $90. Now this is going to excalate out of proportion. If we play the 2 new cash games that have taken the place of 2 of our freerolls this will cost us an extra $70 a week to start with. Now everyone has an extra drink or so so that will now be $160 plus maybe an extra $40(being conservative) over 3 nights for the extra drink or two. This is not counting any meals!!!!

Now you tell me who has $200 or more to spend on poker a week? Not many people. And the ones that do have this sort of money to spend go to the casino where they may be able to actually make it count for something.

I am very disappointed that this happenning, and especially in the area we live in as this area is mainly people of low to middle income who really can't afford this type of thing. To me this is irresponsible promotion of gambling. But that is just my opinion.

On another note, I would have thought that any changes to games would happen at the begining of the season and not part way through. Where does this leave the players who have done well in the freeroll events and now can't play the cash games that have taken their place???? :? :? :?

PS: We were told when registering this evening that the cash games were voted in by the players for Tonight (Tuesday) - I would have thought that this would have been concluded after the players registered and voted and not beforehand?????

Lets set a few things straight here guys.

The Terminator event at Tigers is a $15 buy-in, $10 to prize pool, $5 is a bounty on every player. 10k start stack with a 10k passport starts at 7.30. Secondary turbo tourny, starts at 9.30 $10 buy in 2k start with 2k passport.

Hoppers Sunday is $10 buy in and same deal as Tigers just no bounty, Secondary is the same.

Mon and Tues @ Hoppers is first game at 7.30 is freerole with a 5k startstack and 5k passport with the secondary tourny's the same as tigers.

Now on to the survey at Hoppers Club, This has been going for 2 weeks now. EVERY player that has played for the past 2 weeks has been surveyed. The votes will be tallied and results handed to the venue for them to decide. THE PLAYERS have told us what THEY want at THIER venue.

Hi Guys,

I need to set a few things straight.
1) The fate of the Tuesday night game has not been decided. As it stands right now, we are merely gathering information from our players (in the form of a survey that has been in circulation for the last week) as to what game type they would like to see implemented.
2) Early results from the survey suggest an overwhelming amount of support for the challenge games.
3) In Hoppers, the average amount of players at the 2 evening challenge games is greater than the amount at the 3 evening foundation games. (I took the liberty of excluding the Saturday afternoon game from this data due to the fact it attracts a different demographic and will never reach more than 40 players on a regular basis)
4) Feedback given to both 888PL and the management of Tigers Clubhouse suggested that if the Thursday was to continue to be sustainable, it would be best to convert to a Challenge Event.

888PL offered our Hoppers Club players a very rare chance to submit feedback that would become the basis of all decisions made regarding the structure and formats of these games.
The two biggest games in Victoria are both Challenge Games. This year, five venues have cancelled in Metro Melbourne, one of those was a Challenge Game, the other four were Foundation. We have since signed five new games, all of which are Challenge Games.
As for these changes coming in mid-season, I do apologise. Due to Christmas and the extra work it provides for both FHG and our venue partners, we were not able to implement these changes prior to the new year. On top of that, everyone would be aware that for the first time ever, 888PL in Vic and SA didn't stop operations over the break, thus denying us the chance to have a few weeks off to "reflect and assess" and regather where necessary.

Sometimes it is a fine line, pleasing both our venue partners and our loyal players (without both we wouldn't exist) so that’s what these surveys aimed to achieve.

Harps and Giz, I do apologise that the potential changes to the games within Hoppers Crossing may not suit your personal circumstances, but we wouldn’t still be in this business if we didn’t give the majority of our players what they wanted. That being said, I greatly appreciate you both putting forward your feedback and opinions, in a way that ticking a box on a survey form could never express.

ah i see what harps was on about now.

if it's not been decided yet harps then just have to wait and see.

if it does give a result you'd not agree with, it seems as though it's because that's what all the players have voted for and it's not really much point having a crack at 888pl for that.

I sympathise with your dilema but one thing I'd like to pull you up on is that you mentioned earlier about the freerolls already costing X amount per week for yourself. I respectfully remind you that you do not have to spend anything at a freeroll, it's entirely your choice.

Yes, you can still make finals doing it that way.
Pardon me, but I think you'll find that's a shovel. See you next Tuesday!

Whilst this a Vic thread and effects none of us in SA at this stage, with all due respect Pete and benny the cunt back off a little this is their issue.

On a broader note weekly CBI events have not been a screaming success that the freerolls have been particually in the riverland, a prime example would be the Sunday game at the Renmark Club it attracts an average of 20 players per week, when the Sunday freeroll was played at the Sporting Club it was attracting between 30 to 40 players a week, likewise the Barmera-Monash footy club hosted CBI poker and it rarely got more than 20 players and even Waikerie's CBI fails to attract quality fields save a few weeks a year.

Footnote for Pete, yes its a freeroll but unless you stamp up your card you are disadvantaged.
42.7 percent of all statistics are made up on the spot.

Get back in your box gundog.

Harps mentioned it to myself while in a game earlier today so I came in to have a look.

If you've found anything harsh in what I said then you need your head examined.

P.S. Can't help noticing you felt the need to comment too.

P.P.S No joke it's a disadvantage, show me the bit where I said it would be easy.

Maybe you should come back when you have some basic English comprehension eh?

pretty much this.

im not arguing against harps in any way, he has a valid point, but i just think he is making a bigger deal out of it than it actually is. his point is valid imo.
