Re: Free Roll Poker @ Venues "Dead & Buried"
I don't think venues really know/care about when seasons start and finish, apart from an accounting/contractual point of view. If a venue wants to change, they are sort of within their right. I'm not saying it doesn't suck, though.

Re: Free Roll Poker @ Venues "Dead & Buried"
the cash buyin aspect, assuming we are at least on a level playing field with the rest of the players, should even itself out, because on average you should win as much as you spend.
if you are better than the average player you should be able to make money (of course this doesn't include the meal etc but you were buying a meal for the freeroll anyway)
so in a way, it should actually be cheaper than playing freeroll poker, assuming we are better than the competition (which i believe harps and giz and gayle are)

Personally, I'm more likely to play an event if it's a CBI.

I am willing to stand corrected, but I am 99% certain ALL 888PL venue banners merely say "Poker Here", with the exception of a few that actually state "Cash Buyin Poker Here". The old NPL banners stated "free", but since 888PL's inception, we have had invenue cash games, as such I am certain that such a banner does not exist. But again, I am willing to stand corrected, just tell me where to look.

Pigs (_!_) . Show me where 70 players is not profitable for the Tigers club ? Maybe 2 T/D's might not be profitable . .
I said sustainable Harps, not profitable. Two very different words. The alternative to Poker on a Thursday is live music, an exercise which can be quite costly, but definitely brings in more than 70 people. As for implying that a double header with upwards of 80 unique players could be run by merely 1 TC; My guys are good Harps, but not that good.
666HARPS666 wrote:Julie's decision , I don't care They sponsored Giz for G/F becauce Julie thought she was the best player .
Hoppers club Manager was upset because Giz & I where not represented by H/C . " I did not play "
Don't worry Adam .
Jay & I know what happened there.
I have absolutely no idea what you are talking about here. Julie organised her sponsorship first, so had first choice of players. To imply that there may be some sort of conspiracy behind this is ludicrous and verging on defamatory.

Harps, please provide me with details privately, or DO NOT bring this up out of context when trying to prove a point completely unrelated.

Re: Free Roll Poker @ Venues "Dead & Buried"
I think this thread has gone on for long enough.
Adam/Ernie/Caleb,
Thank you for your responses and representing 888PL in such a fine, honest and upstanding manner. Some lines have been crossed in this thread and before anything gets out of hand I suggest we take any further discussion offline or to a more private communication stream.
Harps,
You have expressed your dislike for the changes that may be implemented. I will take what you have stated under advisement. If budgets or weekly spend are an issue we may introduce a tournament structure that only requires one passport.
I am glad to see that some players still remain passionate about this game and league, I appreciate the time you put into poker and supporting the 888PL Community.
In all things and all business, consumer trends change and the pub poker market in Victoria is changing and wants challenges. Whilst we are predominantly an entertainment product we will continue to offer entertaining services that meet our markets demands. In the case of Victoria the market is maturing and wants a more demanding and rewarding challenge. Hence why cash games are flourishing and why it has helped us to grow our market share in Victoria.
Cash games, generally, attract a more discerning clientele that have disposable income, consume higher quality products (at a faster rate) and will spend coin at the venue included in gaming. This core market is obviously attractive to venues.
In saying the above, sometimes the inverse customer is attracted to these events as well and is why we continue to include passports as a revenue motivator.
The other thing to consider is that, fiscally speaking, venues are better off hosting cash games as they no longer need to provide a prize for first (and in some cases second and third) when there is a cash prize to be distributed.
These decisions by venues to changes are taken very seriously, and the fact that Jay has gone to players to ask them what they want show and displays exactly how much thought some venue managers make when trying to reinvigorate or update their entertainment offering.
Your statement and dissent has been noted, and yes we will always struggle to please people, but if it is decided to change formats halfway through the season, we will honour the top 4 of the freeroll scoreboards with entries to the finals.
It should also be noted that tournament structure we are looking at for the Sunday is a deepstack event that sees all payers commence with 10K and receive 10K passports. This is a change we are considering, but would see the tournament operate for up to 7 hours. Is it worthwhile to run this type of event in a foundation format?
In closing I would like to ask you this; if it were to change to a buy in tournament, what would you like to see in terms of buyin and passports? Would you prefer a $5 game with no passports?

Re: Free Roll Poker @ Venues "Dead & Buried"
By the way, in no way am I saying debate and discussion should be closed on this matter, I just thought it would be good to put through the viewpoint from the venues as well as the market changes that VIC is currently undergoing and that SA will experience over the coming year.
Please feel free to continue to discuss and debate the topic in a civilized manner. Please refrain from insults and heated debate.

just going to quote this bit again so it doesn't get lost in the rest of the post.
i think this is a pretty reasonable short-term solution for those freeroll players that might not like the change to a cash game.
