Re: Free Roll Poker @ Venues "Dead & Buried"

To me, freeroll poker is not classed as gambling as there is no monetary layout required for the game itself. Players have now had the enjoyment of playing poker for a number of years and it has become a social habit. Now these games look like being scrapped and if people want to still enjoy playing poker with their mates, they are being forced to pay for it, I can't see how this is for the benefit of the players.

If people want to play cash games and gamble, then that is their prerogative, but most players who want to play cash games would go to the Casino to earn money.

I understand that the venues may benefit in not having to provide prizes, but they would lose out on the drink cards and meals. So in this I do not think it makes a difference.

In relation to the freeroll games, the number of players that play the second game on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday nights (the cash games currently in the venues) the number of players is approximately 1/3rd of the number for the freeroll game.

It was suggested, and I believe that a lot of the players agreed, that the cash game should be first and possible increase the number of players playing the cash game, and the freeroll be run as the second game, being for the players that don't want to play a cash game and for the ones that have busted out of the cash game.

I understand that the cash game being brought into the Tigers Club as from mid-February will be a $20 buy in. This is more than any of the other cash games run in the area at present. I can't see how this will bring more players to the venue and be of benefit to the Tigers Club.

Unfortunately, after looking at the games available in our area - Inner and outer west - we will only have one night left for a freeroll game - that is a Monday.

Oh well, online games look like the go from now on, and just play the Mondays to qualify the number of games for the semi finals. In venue games are going to be on the way out for me from now on.

I could say so much more, but it would be just a waste of time and effort. So good luck to all you cash game players at venues. You can all buy your way into the prestige dream team and leaderboards. Skill won't have much to do with it now.
Cheers

How does having a buy-in mean there's less skill involved?

my point of veiw is up untill now you have been a bit spoilt in my opinion, the fact that you have had so many games availible that suits you ( im from the country so i only get 1 free roll a week unless i drive 50km)

I guess thats one of the benifits of city life, you get more of everything,

i feel for you guys for your loss of your cheap social outing, but i guess this is a sign of the times, if challenge games is what the general public wants then thats what they will get, as in the end this is a buisness ( give the people what they want)

be sure to remain passionate harps and giz, just remember that everyone on this forum is on your side, even if their point of view is different to yours.
Does anyone know how to make money playing uno vs 6 year olds, its about the only card game i get to play these days.

Wow this thread has gotten very heated.

It obviously shows there is alot of passion for 888pl which must be seen as a good thing.

Some the stuff said has been OTT and not needed but within this there has been some very valid points.

Sadly though for Harps, you can't ignore the majority.

If every player was asked what they wanted and a CBI was the majority then its only right that 888pl at least trial this at a venue. It's like the old phrase, you can't please all of the people all of the time. But you have to listen to the majority or risk losing them.

And it's not like this has not been happening all over Victoria until now. It has and I've witnessed the positive outcomes as well as the negatives. I guess it just gets alot more personal when its your own venue and effects you.

The bottom line is though, if the players opinions are being taken into account and the majority are in favour of a cash buy in then its very hard to argue against this without coming off poorly. (And certainly the heated insults add zero weight to your case)

As Garth has eluded too, CBI games will often attract people who will spend more in the venue. So of course the venue is going to be happy to move to whatever format increases their revenue the most.

It's about to happen at my own venue next week and to my surprise almost everyone was in favour of a cash buy in. My biggest concern for 888pl foundation players who play "for fun" cannot sit with their friends in a CBI, however this seems to not bother most.

And then Harps you must look at in terms of the fact you can actually start making a profit from your venue. A good cash once every couple of weeks can see you cover your buy in and meals and drinks. That in itself isn't the worst trade off for the game changing.

I truly hope you don't stop playing 888pl because of this inevitable shift towards a CBI.

With all that has been written in this thread, what was catylst to survey players as to their preference.

Was it Venue driven?

Was it Player driven?

Was it 888pl driven?

what should be told who actually decided there was a need for the survey to decide between CBI and freeroll, how was the question presented on the survey sheet? are you sure that the way the question was presented was totally netural.

Just as an observation there are 4 CBI events and 10 freerolls in SA tonight. If I was living in Adelaide my 1st choice would be Para Hills a Freeroll and then depending on work I might play the CBI in the CBD, but then again I have the disposable income to play CBI's and travel so its not a real concern to me.

But Graham, it's in Victoria and of no concern to us.

Just saying.....

Garth said in another thread viewtopic.php?f=34&t=6269
Secondly would all players prefer a buy in component (Please see HARPS' thread)?

I'm more concerned with the rubbish you're spouting to be honest.

Telling someone to back off, then doing that exact same thing yourself, makes you look like a bit of a dickhead.

Point of order Pete, after my initial post on this subject, I have read all that is written and refraimed from commenting, because it is a Vic issue.

In the other thread Garth opened it up for comment by his suggestion.

Nowhere in any post has anyone written how the need for a survey of the players came about.

My request is a simple one who was the catylst for survey. It may have a bearing for future discussion of CBI v Freeroll.

If you'd like to discuss points of order, how about retracting your previous comments that were not only out of order but totally incorrect?

Prior to your ridiculous statment, nobody had actually had a go at anybody, with the possible exception of harps getting a little over excited at something I'm assuming he simply mis-read.

Pretending you didn't do it, or choosing to ignore it, doesn't make you any less of a dickhead.

When you can admit you just plain stuffed up, and pull your ignorant head in, I'd be a lot more interested in your comments.
