Well it looks certain that Kubica is out for the year and possibly the end of his career. The surgeons did a good job reattaching the hand, however there is no guarentee that it will hold or that he will get the full use of it back.

With the complexity of F1 steering wheels these days, it will be extremelly difficult to come back with an impairment or a handicap if he doesnt get the full feel and motorskills back.

So, Bruno Senna or Romain Grosjean to replace?

Or a smokey perhaps? Heidfeld? Raikonnen?

There is an animated simulation of the accident.

Very nasty and very lucky not to do more harm to himself.

Official: Bahrain Grand Prix postponed

Official: Bahrain Grand Prix postponed wrote:Officials at the Sakhir International Circuit have announced that the season-opening Bahrain Grand Prix has been cancelled as a result of the current political unrest in the country. With the statement having come from the country’s Royal family, the final pre-season Formula 1 test session has also been called off. The 2011 season will now begin two weeks later, in Australia on 27 March.

Talk of Bahrain has very much overshadowed the last four days’ of testing in Barcelona, with the majority of drivers having expressed their fears for the event and Formula 1 commercial rights holder Bernie Ecclestone having placed its destiny in the hands of the Royal family.

‘Bahrain International Circuit announces Bahrain’s withdrawal from the first race of the F1 season,’ reads the track’s official Twitter feed. ‘HRH Crown Prince informed Formula One’s Bernie Ecclestone of the BIC’s decision by telephone earlier today.’

“We felt it was important for the country to focus on immediate issues of national interest,” the Crown Prince commented.” The statement continued: ‘At the present time the country’s entire attention is focused on building a new national dialogue for Bahrain.’

It is likely that the race will be placed further down the calendar, possibly becoming Round 18 between India and Abu Dhabi. Today's news marks the first date change for a Grand Prix since Belgium 1985, when the Spa track surface was breaking up.

No suprises there Caleb with the turmoil that has been going on there.

On a lighter note, it should make my trip Melbourne for the GP a bit more memorable as it is the first race of the season but also could be the last in Melbourne and Australia.

If the SA Gov knew what was good for them, I think the GP might be returning to a local event...??!! ;)

I love my F1 and I'd love to see one live again (only two times I've been were the two years it rained in Adelaide!), but it really does seem to be a commercial flop. Very unlikely it would generate enough economic activity to offset the huge cost associated with running it, particularly if they want it lit up for a night race (event owner would have to pay for that?)

It would nice to have it back here but to be realistic there is no chance in hell Adelaide or for that matter Australia will ever retain it.

There are countries queuing up to host a round and they are prepared to throw far more money at it. So I am afraid that once Australia loses its round, it will be gone for good or for a very long time.

What we should be supporting is the proposed SA Motorplex. A private consortium is prepared to spend up to $100 million towards a new drag strip, race track and upgrade the speed boat club at the Gilman site. Check out the site below.

http://www.adelaidemotorplex.com.au/index.php

Unfortunately the government has not been supportive of this proposal and it has been at a standstill for the last 2 years. Recently Kevin Foley the new motorsport minister has come out and stated that the Gilman land will not be used for the motorplex as it is noisy for local residents and the land is earmarked for industry and defence projects.
