Your State Final's bad beat

Postby AceLosesKing » Sun Mar 30, 2008 4:53 pm

Because we know there's bound to be a ton of them. I'll start us off.

Blinds 1500/3000. I'm no 2. I have $13,000, the average stack on the table would've been about 12k.

Scott, UTG, folds. As does no 1.

I raise all in. Roger "Damatch" (to my left) thinks about calling (has about 16k)... but folds. SB folds and its just up to the BB, who has about 20k after putting in his BB. He thinks for about 10 seconds then calls.

I show pocket 4s.

BB shows J 10 off.

Flop: Q, Q, 3.

Turn: 5.

River: 5.

Two pair with the J kicker beats my pocket 4s :(

Still, from my first State Finals appearance I finished around 65th (from a starting flight of 355) and I was the 2nd to last player from the Gawler/Barossa region, so that's great. I was only 20 mins from the 4 hour break too :( Apart from the all in on the 4s (maybe a raise would've sufficed) I am extremely happy with the way I played.

Still hurts, though :(

Good luck to all the remaining players (yes, I pretty much came straight on here to cry about it).

So let's hear it... what was your State Finals bad beat?

*grumbles*

I dont really have a bad beat... my cards really sucked, misplayed 1 hand (a bluff) and slowly blinded away until I had to push with Q10o vs 87s vs AJo... obv A on turn.

It was wierd.. the lead-up to this seasons States was different from the other 2. Usually I'm nervous or excited... today I was just completely "meh!!". Oh well.

Pics being posted soon by the way.

My pocket 4s ended my tournament as well :(

The lead-up was the killer though. Was UTG with KK and BB/SB 2k/1k. Wanted most value as possible out of pot so limped in hoping for more callers or an all-in call, ended up having 3 other callers (8k in pot). Flop came J44, good flop for me so I push all-in with 7.5k, 2 folds and 1 caller with 1.5 k. He turns over A4, trip 4s beat 2 pair.

Table was split and a few hands later it was 5 minutes from 4 hour break (I have 6k) and I didn't want to be left with 1xBB after the break so I was going to push with any hand I had. Blinds 1.5/3k, I'm left of UTG who goes all-in with around >10k. I have pocket 4s and with the slow play at the table, didn't want to wait for a better hand so I go all-in. No other callers which is good for low pockets. Flop comes JJ9, Turn J (full house!), river 4 (hits my 4, doesn't do anything for my hand though). He has A9 and has a better full house JJJ99 over JJJ444!

Does anyone know how many runners were left from the 1st flight? I think I finished around 50th? Aaron, were we on the same table?

From memory, there were 54 or 55 left at the conclusion of flight 1.

I lost to pocket 4's. I had pair of aces on the flop with J kicker. I only 3BBs left so I was short stacked and tried to push the other 2 players out. Guy who had 4's called and caught a 3rd 4 on the river.

I wouldn't call it a bad beat. That's just poker. I finished around 80th in flight 2.

My bad beat was not even qualifying to make it to the final. Shame. Shame. Shame.

Sounds like the 4s got a hammering

15mins left of flight 1 and i had $8k
Looking down the barrell there was no way i was coming back later short stacked so i needed to make a last minute move

Was dealt
[4s] [4c]

So i pushed all in on a tight table in middle position after other players had folded hoping to steal the blinds or at least get one caller which i got from the BB

BB had
[ks] [qd]

Flop
[ad] [4h] [10c]

Looking good with trips

Turn
[6d]

$17k was in the kitty if i could hold against the river as there was only 4 cards that could beat me.

River
[jc]

BB had jagged the straight

Out in about 65th position in the first flight beaten by the river AGAIN

Ouch, nice bad beat story. The moral of the story, don't play with pocket 4s!

Pocket 4s = death.

Don't know, maybe. What do you look like? I was on the same table all day, on the right of Roger 'Damatch.' I wore sunnies most of the day, had my shirt collar up too.
