i wonder how many people were actually chasing the dream team this year - maybe you guys can enlighten me.

it seems to me like a massive promotion for people that arent super interested in chasing it (or maybe in some cases, didn't even know they had qualified)

maybe it is better to re-distribute that 10k to the online champs or live leaderboard prizes for each state.

The concept of the "Dream Team" is still sound, it is just a matter of fine tuning it to get it right. People who say the more you are able to play the easier it is to qualify are sorely mistaken, you just need to be smart about which events you play....

I think to date the players who have qualified have definitely deserved their place (with the exception of a few State Final winners). I have been there to witness both leaderboard chasers & State Final winners (SA only there), and can tell you from experience that if you apply yourself to make top 5 of the DT leaderboard, you are setting yourself for an intense chase. This is probably why it ends up being beyond what most people are prepared to do, and why it ends up being something only a small percentage of players actually set as a goal, but I still believe it produces the best DT, made up of the best of the players who have applied themselves over a period of time to try and make it....

That being said, it may not be the "best players" in the league, but I said the best of the players who have "applied themselves" to make it. You cannot sit back and say "I can't play every day", or "I don't live in the right area", or "My job doesn't allow it", or whatever and say that the people who qualify don't deserve it. Remember, they are the best of the people who have applied themselves to chase it....
What?, poker without the river??, you've just made my dreams come true!!!

good points jmack, but i think you have proved my point - if there are only a small select group that are chasing it every season, and no new people are willing to make that commitment save for the same people ever season, then what is the dream team achieving? (save for the one season shakeup that occurred because of the queensland players, i think you could say that its essentially the same group of players)

If the goal is to get more players to play a lot more often in order to chase dream team, then im not sure it is working. i guess thats what this final was for - to give the regular-but-less-often players a carrot that is within their reach, but then a lot of these players didn't even realise they had qualified.

or maybe its just a promotion thing? maybe there needs to be a fortnightly or weekly article on the website or on the forum going over the results of the week? maybe who is in the top ten of the away and dream team scoreboards can be mentioned? who are the big movers? who won the big live and online tourneys for the week? is it the last week to chase state leaderboard points? who can still win it from here?

who are the dream team members? i know that in the first season there was an article and some people were interviewed etc but how many people would now know that jmack has crushed the DT and won it a couple (or 3?) times. people should, this should be promoted a lot more, or else it will be the same select group every season. maybe jmack can correct me on that one and there has been promotion that i havent' seen, but i guess there could always be more.

i think i will stop now, i am rambling a bit, i hope it makes sense.

G'day All,
1st off I have never cracked the top 20 in Dream Team, But have never been lower than 29th(3 times :x ). & yes i am results orientated, ( whats wrong with always wanting to finish in the points? Or trying to play the best you can? )
That being said, I love the idea of having a Dream Team, But how do we find a fair way of finding out who or how the Dream Team should be worked out?
Giz last year did put the idea forward that it maybe should be a best of 3 online games ;) " top 100 players venue/online ".
I know a hell of a lot of the Dream Team top 5 place getters from over the years. Yes some truly good players & some quantity players  .
& whilst this seasons Dream Team was worked out with a 1 off online game. I do think if it was a best of 3/5 game series it might of been a better concept." I did love the idea of the way people qualified for it "

Just a few opinions from me.
Tim did an excellent job of putting this game on for all of us, & I would love to say great work mate ;) .

p,s. Making the Dream Team was never a GOAL of mine "like making the G/F, It has & always will be about trying to play the best poker I can.

Cheers Guys ([_] [_])

Sounds to me like someone just volunteered to do some MAJOR work in some reporting  the theory is good but the work load would be scary... good luck.

Season 1 seems so long ago but I remember people were really excited about the race for Dreamteam and you're right benny the cunt, nowadays it seems like a one or two man race every season. I agree that more coverage of who is winning where would be great. Something like this from S1:
