Just for the record benny the cunt Melbourne have the 2nd youngest list only the suns are younger.

But putting the youth issue aside, I think the problem is that the coach has been there far too long, to put too much discipline and structure into a young team, just shackles their natural ability and youthful exuberance.

im not saying that they were younger than melbourne or otherwise, just that because they are young, their performances will be up and down. as well melbournes, their game against west coast last week was one of the worst games i had ever seen.

craig has missed the finals once in 7 years, (last year). dont think the coach is the problem, but losing 1300 games of experience IS.

Adelaide 9 finals for 3 wins under Craig.
You beat Hawks 1st game @ AAMI & you beat St.Kilda a very over rated team.
2 good players injured doesn't = the losses that you have had. I see it as having made poor draft picks, over the last few years.

as heard on The Rail.com.au

the first bit of your post i agree with, st kilda are on the ropes, but hawthorn was a good win, and we nearly beat carlton in melbourne, who are going to be a top 4 side at the moment, but the second part about the draft is just plain not true

the only draft pick in the last 5 years that i would say has underperformed has been talia.
but if you look at our rookie promotions over the past couple of years, they are excellent - (petrenko, martin, henderson, schmidt, thompson, wright, jaensch)

when the guys like davis, mckernan, sloane, danverfield etc have 60-100 games under their belt instead of 10-40, then we will be a really good team i think.

2010 -

National 1 14 Brodie Smith Adelaide 6
National 4 61 Jarryd Lyons Adelaide 0
National 5 82 Rookie Promotion Ricky Henderson Adelaide 6
National 6 97 Rookie Promotion Matthew Jaensch Adelaide 5
National 7 107 Rookie Promotion Luke Thompson Adelaide 4

from last year's draft, only lyons isn't in the team at the moment

2009

National 1 13 Daniel Talia Adelaide 0
National 2 29 Jack Gunston Adelaide 2
National 3 45 Sam Shaw Adelaide 0
National 4 61 James Craig Adelaide 0
National 5 74 Rookie Promotion Brodie Martin Adelaide 6

probably not as good as they would have hoped with talia, but gunston and especially martin will be good players. hopefully talia gets a few games this year.

2008

Type Round Pick Player Current Team Games Since Drafted *
National 1 10 Phil Davis Adelaide 18
National 2 28 Shaun McKernan Adelaide 7
National 3 44 Rory Sloane Adelaide 17
National 4 60 Thomas Lee 0

pretty decent draft right there (note they also got henderson and schmidt as rookies this year)

2007

Adelaide Crows AFL Draft Picks at the end of Season 2007 2007 AFL Draft Summary

National 3 38 Myke Cook Adelaide 13
National 4 58 Tony Armstrong Adelaide 9
National 5 71 Aaron Kite 0
National 6 75 NSW Scholarship Taylor Walker Adelaide 38

pretty decent picks there too dont you think?

This statement is probably more of an indictment than a brag.

Adelaide do seem like a team that have to catch up with the 'press' that seems so effective when used properly.
I don't know if it is personel that is the problem, and cutting 1300 games of experience was a GOOD thing.
Of course Adelaide will be better with 2 more seasons into some of those you named, but i think something better could be produced in the meantime.

But it is only early days, if old man Craig starts to make tweaks now and adopt change (like he has in the past) things could change around just as quick.
May all your pain be champagne!

yeah, it probably meant that edwards and burton and mcleod played on a season too long.

definitely agree, that game against melbourne was horrible - if melbourne converted early, they would have smashed us by 150 points.

it is pretty rare for an adelaide team to get smashed like that, i can only remember once in about 5 years when they have played that bad (when they lost by like 140 to brisbane a few years ago) so i think its only up from here. i tell you what though, they better come out and make a statement and smash gold coast or i won't be happy.
