Re: Boys Toy or just a Gimick
looks pretty cool.
i have also seen articles that have described android being embedded in things like air conditioners and other appliances so you can control them using your phone, from work or whatever.
seems like this is a natural progression from that.
problem with car stereos these days is that basically every manufacturer builds in their own, so it is basically impossible to install an after market one in a lot of cards.
but i guess if some car companies get on board stuff like this will become more and more common place

Re: Boys Toy or just a Gimick
Apple are certainly on the way to this end goal with the major updates coming to OSX iOS and the New Cloud service they are initiating later this year. I imagine Android will have some pretty amazing updates announced soon too.
Check out the link below (Warning - it is a 2 hour presentation)

Personally for me, I love Apple because of the way they produce all the hardware and software as a package. The day Google step up and become a mainstream provider of hardware coupled with all their software it is going to be a buyers market for sure!
No joke... I see Google/Apple one day taking a major leap into the many other markets like what benny the cunt suggested with TVs, House Hold white goods, etc... Homes will soon be designed for technology rather than filled with them.
Bye bye Microsoft!

If I were google I'd rather license my OS for multiple phones than just one.
Also, cloud is such a buzzword
Apple is just catching up there.

this is probably the thing i actually hate most about apple. the hardware of the iphone is excellent, and iOS is too, but then you have to put up with itunes which is a piece of crap.
similarly, macOS is a kickass operating system, and i would love to use it on a PC because i cant afford to pay 1.75 million dollars to get any of their hardware.

Re: Boys Toy or just a Gimick
I agree with Both you.
Cloud is a buzz word that just describes a hard drive in they sky really how ever if you check out Apples planes for the way in which data will automatically be pushed across all your devices, it's pretty neat. Both Google and Apple have been using "cloud" for a while now with the exception that Google has crapped all over Apples "MobileMe" which is now officially dead and being replaced with iCloud.
In terms of Apple hardware, I gotta say it is worth it to a degree. I would never buy an Apple Desktop but their Laptops, iPhones and iPads are great. When Google get into the mainstream hardware market surely Apple will have to review their pricing policy (at least I think).
iTunes does have it's draw backs but none the less it is still a great platform and "should" only get better over time too once Google begin to challenge it more aggressively.
I get Dave's view of licensing the OS to multiple device manufacturers. More choice is great. That being said i think end result would be limited to price the end user pays. If you had to exactly similar phones with the same software type, same functionality, reliability and what ever else makes a phone what it is. What really is the difference?

I'm way behind the times on iCloud, but it looks pretty cool.

Clouds are more so to do with SAAS, Software as a Service, as well as expandable storage and bandwidth.
It's not just online storage

Yeah this is where the big advantages are - some small company can completely outsource their it and just lease equipment and software and storage etc.
