I know that's true, but the arguments for a relegation type system are solid.

A relegation type system was discussed recently. While I don't quite agree with Schwabb's version, I do agree with the benefits of the system.

Except the benefit that if you are in the bottom part of the league, you are playing teams that aren't as good over and over again - creating poor crowds - and poor cashflow.

The question is do you make up for this cash flow with bigger crowds at games with bigger attendances in the top half?

How many NFL teams are there? around 30 I'm going to guess. That is one team for every 10million people (give or take a few mil)

We'll have 18 for 22 come next year. Complete rubbish. 12 team, play each other twice. simple. have another league below that consisting of the top state league sides, then one below that for all the rest. air travel is cheap these days.

State team can earn promotion, and current afl teams can be relegated.

The AFL does, but the teams don't.

Big Crowds means more profit for the AFL, but lesser teams will struggle, despite receiving some of the flow back from that.

Port are struggling, and a lot of that is crowd numbers - the other teams could be making a billion dollars per game, but that doesn't affect Port.

That's be nice.

Unfortunately with the fact there's 10 teams just in Melbourne, it won't happen.

You would (literally) have to close the AFL, and start fresh, with applications.

The reward of doing well is far greater than not doing well (Assuming you're at the top of the ladder).
