Part 2:
Saturday:After a good night’s rest, we all rose fairly early and got ourselves ready for the big event. Breakfast was first on the agenda for half of the crew, while the other half were just hungry for chips (see what I did there?)
WARNING: BLATANT SELF PROMOTION AHEADOnce down at Crown, benny the cunt and myself set up the area dedicated to The Rail Podcast. (Which can be found at
www.therail.com.au) After some sound checks, we were ready to hand the podcasting reigns over to Mitchy Mitch and find our tables.
I’d love to say my GF was a deep run, however, I was out a few hours after the lunch break on Saturday. I got great hands that I just couldn’t turn in to anything. I did get a double up to just over $30k after lunch when my AK held against AQ. Unfortunately I gave half of it away 2 hands later when my AK got sucked out on to QJ or something similar, when my 2 paired flop gave way to a turned straight. That same player got the rest of my chips half an hour later when my AK ran into QQ and I never improved. That player was Sarah Catterwell and for a change my chips went to a friend and not some luckbox constantly sucking out. Sarah went on to cash, so I was happy for her.
Dave was eliminated no too long after I believe and I’m not sure how Russ faired, but I do know he didn’t survive Day 1.
At this point it’s tough to work out what to do with one’s self for a few hours, so I managed to catch up with a few people I hadn’t seen for a while, Harps and Giz popped in, always good to see them, made a couple of interviews with Mitchy Mitch and some knocked out players.
Luckily dinner rolled around and we got set for the partners event. And a bizarre partners event it was. Most people had partners lined up, including me. However pretty much everyone’s partner had decided not to play, so the mad scramble went out to look for a partner. Chris Whitmee and myself joined forces, and no sooner than we did, out original partners decided, what the hey, let’s play, so partners were mixed up everywhere. I started out for Team Swankmee (see what I did there??), and got off to a flier, doubling us up very early on. By the time our first blind level was up, we were very healthy with about 2.5 our start stack, ready to combine it with Chris’s start stack.
I went and fetched myself a drink, by the time I came back, it was almost time for me to play again. When I sat back down, our stack was quite a bit lower and looking very horrible. I managed to get it off life support and back in to a healthier state. Just in time for Whitmee to kill it again. Unfortunately this is how our game went for over an hour, before finally being killed off. While Whitmee, killed out stack numerous times, I have to say that teams event was great fun.
Bennymacca Final Tabled it and was indeed having a good run. We all had a few more bevvies then headed back to the Bat Cave for another beer and to rest up our only player going in to Day 2.
To be continued....
