$US is what you want to be holding for the long-term.

$AUD has been stronger due to $US becoming weaker. The yanks have been lowering interest rates and printing money [likes it's going out of fashion] to stimulate economic activity. This hasn't and will not work.

We're gonna experience a big crash within the next 12 months or so [most likely next year, affecting many economies, inc. europe, US & Australia] and this downturn will last for many years [Just like Japan has]. Properties will drop around 50% as well as the the stock market.
