The freerolls that run at the moment could also act as step 1 tournaments, where the winner gets a $25 ticket to a step 2 tourney. something like the freeroll + 50c rebuy would be a good structure for those type of tourneys.

This still feeds people towards the Main Event, but will also generate a couple of decent on-line tourney's per week. Make it a $5 - $10 buy-in, and you might have a real winner... I was thinking a game like the JMACK grind for instance?

I know 888pl are looking into ways of improving 888pl online, but an idea sort of left field.
Have mini leagues with promotion and relegation. Maybe start with 4 leagues
Say containing 24 players. The season runs from 1st - 25th of each month. (re-registration period 26th - 28th of each month)
Points are awarded each game, using the 888 points system If you can't play you still earn the 10 points. So the winner will always get the same amount of points each game.
Have the top league with a buy in of say $50. The $50 means you are registered to play a game each day
2nd league has $20 buyin
3rd league has $10 buyin
4th league has $3 buyin

Positions are based on the average of your highest top 10 scores.

1st league winner wins a main event seat or $1200. Paid from the $50 x 24 entries. Bottom 5 get relegated.
2nd league 1st-5th wins promotion to 1st league. 1-5 win their buy in to 1st league for season 2. ($250) remaining paid out as cash prizes. Bottom 5 relegated.
3rd league 1st - 5th wins promotion to 2nd league. 1-5 win their buy in to 2nd league for season 2 ($100)
remaining paid out as cash prizes, Bottom 5 relegated.
4th league 1st - 5th wins promotion to 3rd league. 1-5 win their buy in to 3nd league for season 2 ($50)
remaining paid out as cash prizes.

For the season 2 whoever has managed to not get promoted or relegated, gets 1st option to buy in for season 2. If they rebuy option goes to whoever would have been relegated. Then the opition goes to a player the league below. etc. If there are any players not taking up the opition to play the next season then new players can buy in.
Will mean each season a player from 1st league can qualify for the main event for $50. If you have already qualified then you win $1000.
Unsure if it could work with 4 leagues, but i think there would be enough interest for 3 leagues easy.

Sorry to responsed to my own post, but just thought of a more workable idea.
3 Leagues all with same buy in $35. 18 players each league.
Season runs from 1-25th of the month.
Points awarded exactly the same as 888pl current points.
Average of top 10 games determines positions.
Top 3 from each league play off in the end of season Final 9, on the 27th of the month.
Winner gets $1200
Runner up $350
3rd $150
4th $100
5th $55
6th $35

At the beginning of each season players can join which ever league they wish. So no promotion or relegation. Just 1st 18 each league. If a league is full by the 28th open up another on.

Interesting idea but I think that relies on people playing all the time which doesn't really work

Technically not as you will still receive your 10 points even if you can't play.
You would just need to play as many games as you can to improve your average and finish in near the top to qualify.
We used to get 30+ players payung $11 every tues and thurs, so technically outlay is around the same.

Unsure if would be able to get 54 players paying $35, but should still work with 36 paying $55. 2 leagues top 4 from each league play 28th final table. I think if you are prepared to invest $35 probably prepared to invest $55.

Not a bad idea, but pretty complicated for a newbie I reckon. With the facility to run private tournaments you could always do something like this with a group of mates. Having said that, makes it harder that you can't direct buy in to the main event
Riskers gamble, experts calculate.

I do like the idea of divisions, i.e. div 1, div 2, etc. This does give players something to strive for, and therefore a reason to play...

You would however have to put up something exclusive for div 1 players, other than bragging rights. I think we have proved that bragging rights are not enough of an incentive for players. Maybe Div 1 players are allowed to buyin to Main Event?? These players have technically "qualified" by making the top div, same as people "qualify" by binking a satellite.....(but are more deserving IMO).....

Online games only need to be 'tweeked' to give incentive and advertised at venues to get the people playing. No need to tear it to shreds and reinvent the wheel.
