Re: Opinions/advice please!!!!!
Ok as most of you know I have been trying to work on my live game. I have started to read the books ( although have to admit just re read the two by Joe Navaro), started thinking as I play some hands "What would I do online?", and finally have started playing a little more. I have been watching a lot more of what is actually happened at the table (something which I had stopped doing as I was just too focused on crap). And while I had hoped this would help leading up to the main event I have been so nervous that I was starting to think "I dont think I can do this"
Today I went with friends to a cash buy in game (the second one I have done this year). All except 3 or 4 players were people I had never played against. Keeping with the nerves within about 10 minutes I was thinking "Perhaps live is just not for me" Then at about the 30 minute mark I started to really settle and enjoy myself. Made some solid plays (still a little tight in places though) and some really good reads. Was able to correctly pick out the players to worry about and those I wanted to be involved in pots with pretty well. Was on a high when bang one mistake and I was out
But you know what that is ok. My instincts were right and I just did not trust them on this occasion which cost me. It is not the first mistake I will make and I am sure there will be others but the big thing is there were so many positives that came out prior to this. Also I know with more experience these mistakes will become less and less as I trust my instincts more and the more I do the better I will become.
Thank you to all who gave me advice as you do not know how much it helped (as some of you saw I really needed a kick up the arse). And after today my nerves are much better and I am ready for the next game. Good luck to all playing in the main event. G

Hi Gayle,
Although not sure if this is the right thread, I am pleased to hear you are "trusting you instincts". That is a massive part of live play. Even if you don't know it, you are actually taking in most player's tells while at the table. The skill factor is recognising them. Your "instincts" are actually you starting to pick up on them.
Good luck this week at the Main Event. Win, lose or draw one thing is a certainty, you are going to have a FANTASTIC time!!!

the most important thing you can do is learn from your mistakes - you cant be expected to play perfectly in situations that are foreign to you, but it means that the next similar situation you find yourself in you will be much better prepared to handle yourself than you were the last time. and soon enough that little part of your game is second nature to you.
good luck gayle, stick at it

Re: Opinions/advice please!!!!!
Thanks Jo and benny the cunt and thanks to everyone who gave advice. I had always had good instincts but lost them there for a while. This game was so out of my comfort zone that I was so happy to feel at ease after about 30 minutes. The pub was foreign, I had never seen any of the players at my table and the buy in was higher than I am used to ( not huge but $150). But I got what I came for which was more confidence. Am I ready to take on the world, hell no and I know many of you here would own my soul at the table. Having said that I think that there are quite a few players out there that i can do the same to and this is what I need to remember.
Again thank you for the advice from everyone. I know I ramble a bit at times

Re: Opinions/advice please!!!!!
Day 2 of a decent tourney blinds are 1500/3000 400 ante average stack 74k. Im dealt pkts 10 s on the button with 54k behind, mid pos. shoves for 14k. its folded to me with the sb on 80k and the bb on 312k, what would be your play and the thinking behind it. Anyone?

I would shove almost everytime cause I only want to be heads-up with 10's, not multi-way when you only have about 20BB.
The SB is only calling if he has a hand and the BB may call you with smaller pair or overs that the ALL-IN player may also hold.
