I have said it before that Jo is one of the most naturally talented players I have played against and is results in the league show this. However I think that by not being open to other possibilities you are limiting this talent and not reaching its full potential.

Great post!

I guess it also comes down to being exposed to different situations and different structures as well. In 888pl poker players are frequently short stacked, and Jo you would definitely be one of the better players at grinding a short stack and moving those extra few places up the points / cash (whether that me in a live or online game).

The mindset of where i was coming from (and others too, but im only assuming that) was what was the best way to maximise our profits over the long term in a more "regular" tournament environment (i.e. where as average stack is much more than just a few big blinds). That would mean going for wins rather than min-cash. In those situations (and it differs depending on who you talk to and what book you read) but the 'shove/fold' stage of a tournament will typically begin at about 10-20BB.

Now these numbers aren't just some players theory or hunch or experiences, they are actually based on the math behind maximising our EV, taking into account fold equity etc. And, shove/folding when under 10 BB IS pretty much universally accepted as the optimal way of doing things. So in this circumstance, its not really one or two players opinion against yours, its actually many many more (hence your incorrect assumpiton of a gang mentality).

Assuming that most regular, successful 888pl players (of which you are one) would eventually want to find success in other environments outside 888pl (other casino tournaments, larger online tournaments) then i find it really strange that you wouldn't be seeking out as many different opinions as possible, and wondering where they cam from and the justification behind them.

Its only then that we can improve our understanding of broader concepts, which go in into forming our own unique playing style. Lots of different styles can be successful in poker, and pleaser don't think that anybody was attacking your style, as against the predominant 888pl player, a TAG strategy works very well, but in this specific situation it is NEVER correct to be flat calling a raise with a 5BB stack. Never ever ever, ever-ever.
Riskers gamble, experts calculate.

Your hand was 45s or 56s, but they were suited for sure (I think you ended up hitting the flush). Just to let everyone know, Jo is trying to make the point that he would never play a hand like that, and I told him in the chat box that he knocked me out of an OC Event with that hand so couldn't understand why he was so upset with me at the time.

Ok, I went through my hand histories on my PC a few days ago thinking it was in the July OC Events but it wasn't so it must of been in the April OC Events.

For some reason, my histories only go back to 6th April 2011 even though my settings has it for 999 days.

So I requested for the hand histories to be emailed to me but unfortunately they've told me today they can only provide the last 6 months. :x

Jo, can you please check if you have hand histories for 2nd April 2011?

Does anyone else have hand histories for the OC Events on 2nd April 2011, if so, hopefully you were on the same table.

813 if you must know. apology accepted

I said most, so I don't think I need to apologise for that one...

Guys, one thing you all fail to realise (ok, most of you), is that I KNOW what is the accepted way to play in that situation. I am not blind to other peoples opinions and have done my fair share of research.

I just put forward a reason why I did what I did. I don't even really care if you all think my play is retarded, it was what it was.

And benny the cunt, I didn't post that hand, Jav did, so if anyone was trying to embarass anyone, it was him, not me.

I was asking him to post the 45 v KK hand as I was shocked when he mentioned it. I still can't believe I was in that hand, and wouldn't surprise me if he has me mixed up with someone else....
What?, poker without the river??, you've just made my dreams come true!!!

so you know what move you should make and then willingly go against it? that seems more perplexing to me than not knowing it in the first place

if this the case i stand corrected, because it seems to me that you asked jav to post a hand, and then he posted one.

my thoughts on the actual hand posted dont change though

there are certainly times where playing different to the norm is great. wabbit will agree with me, there is a pro bigdogpckt5s who always does weird stuff and he is a gun player.

but unfortunately this isn't one of those times.

For Jo

Jo I hope that you are not just taking the differing opinions from this post but are actually picking up that you are a well respected and a talented player and people are just trying to assist you grow with the advice they give. Most have based their advice on sound mathematical data and again only in the interests of providing help to a well liked player. While people are passionate about the advice they give it does not dilute the respect you have amongst the 888pl community as both a person and a player.

Look forward to meeting you at the virtual felt again soon and wish you well in your endeavors.

Ok, main problems I see here are:

1) ROYTRUDGEY had registered for this tourney so why did anyone else bother?

2) Jo, you are outnumbered, therefore you are always wrong.
