Re: Are we having online champs anytime soon??
Hi guys, currently looking into dates for this as our current season ends soon! It looks like it may be the second weekend in April(tentatively) Which would be the 14-15th however please keep in mind this is not confirmed.
I'll get back to you by the end of the week with the final outcome.
I look forward to seeing plenty of you on the felt!

Re: Are we having online champs anytime soon??
To be honest the online champs in now the only time I play 888pl online.
Have gone on a couple of times and still normal games struggle for numbers.
Maybe an idea to have a season long exclusive event just for the online champs.
Even the last online champs numbers appeared to be drastically down. (please correct me if wrong)
I know Main Event was the focus in the previous months, but maybe for this season a little more TLC with online games would perhaps bring a few players back.

+1
i rarely play normal event anymore, and every time i try ( maybe once a week) i cant seem to find a game, i sit down at around 8pm after getting the kids to bed and nothing is going
Does anyone know how to make money playing uno vs 6 year olds, its about the only card game i get to play these days.

Re: Are we having online champs anytime soon??
I would love to see a renewed push for the online games, including making APL a part of the process, but unfortunately i cant see it happening.
I think the problem is that there is a perception that it hurts the in-pub games. whether or not it actually does i cant say since i dont know that information, but you could argue that a well run, supported, online schedule could definitely hurt live games.
Back when online was thriving, If i was from a competitor, i would have gone around to every struggling 888pl venue and told them that 888pl only cares about driving people to the online games, and out of your pubs. It would make a pretty convincing argument, whether it is right or wrong is largely irrelevant.
So whilst a lot of us would like to see a great online schedule back again, i doubt we will.
Having said all that, large, singular events like the online champs can still definitely have a place on the schedule and they should definitely be expanded. similarly for satellites. i wish they got up and running as per glynn's original plan, that would have been great

The above was typically the case when the 888PL was launched and FHG started directing players online. It was fairly easily to combat when wielding the correct information. To cut a long sales pitch short the below is a quick example.
The life cycle of your average pub poker player looks like this....
n00b > socialite > points chaser > semi-experienced player looking to play bigger stakes/online.
FHG with their partnership with 888.com created a means of extending the life cycle of the average player. They gave them an opportunity to further progress their game (online) and still kept them as participating members of the live/in-venue pub league through further marketing and promotions.
I think 888PL still have a great deal of potential with 888 online. People are going to play online regardless, the difference is that when 888PL were selling their product, they could claim that the players that did make the transition to the online space were still prospective members of their league rather than just consumers that evolved beyond the pub scene.

Re: Are we having online champs anytime soon??
I think once the GTD's went on 888pl games, so did the numbers.
Deepstack Tue & Thu usually avg around 20 players even though it's a $11 Buy-in and I'm sure it's the GTD that attracts those numbers.
Trialling a $2 and/or $5 game with some sort of GTD should increase the numbers. It might be worth a shot?
Also, I believe that online does not affect venue numbers whatsoever. Numbers have dropped in the Victorian venues I play in and it has nothing to do with online cause there haven't really been any online games to play and most don't play online at all.
I see the online option as a secondary option for those who play both venue and online. Most people wouldn't be able to or afford to play every night at venue, so the nights they're at home, it would be good to have the option of playing online but there must be some incentive for it to work.
