It is not as straight forward as it seems.

I would love to know where you conjured this up from. Forward motion of any kind has always been a muck where i have played, when there is no line. This prevents angle shooting by people "pretenting" to fold and then bringing their carrds back when they get the required reaction etc.

It seems like you are the one with a fundamental misunderstanding.

As dirty as it sounds, the pump fake is part of the game for someone to angleshoot. As the rule pointed out suggests, if you make an action in turn, his angleshoot then becomes a muck.
You don't even have to bet, you can just check and his angleshoot is binding muck.
Like I said, if you don't understand the angles, you can fall victim. If you understand them, you are better prepared to deal with it and protect your interest.

Missed the boat on this thread but from what I have read this situation just comes down to differing interpretations of the rules. This isn't uncommon, whether you're talking about games in the 888PL/APL or at a casino, these situations happen all the time. I was at crown the other day and involved in a bit of a heated exchange about whether a forward motion constitutes a call where the player does not release the chips. In most US casinos there is a rule about forward motion signalling a call to prevent angle shoots but at Crown the rules seem to suggest that it will only be a call if there is a forward motion and a release of the chips (at least that was the supervisors interpretation on the day).

I can only speak good things about Ernie. In my dealings with him he has always been fair, professional and knowledgeable when it comes to making decisions. I think questioning his integrity went far beyond what was acceptable behaviour, even if you disagreed with his decision. At the end of the day there is only one rule that matters: Decisions of the Tournament host are final. Just ask this guy:
