State leaderboard vs venue top 5

Postby torch » Sat Apr 19, 2008 9:47 pm

Hi All, I read somewhere that this season when going down the venue leaderboard to get the top 5, that you will only be going down to 10th spot, is this correct? What happens if all the top 10 at venue are in top 50? Or if there is only 1 person not on the leaderboard, will you go down the list until you get 5 players for the state final? Can anyone advise...... Thanks

last season, they just kept going until there were 5 unique players from that venue. i think there was a thread about someone that finished 19th at the payneham qualifying from 19th position.

i think this is definitely the way it should continue.

granted, it is a little silly to think that someone should qualify from that low down, but that is a lot better than having noone at all qualifying from a particular venue - now that would be a farce

We should also perhaps remember that the session where the player as 'low' as 19th qualified was a session that started later in the season which quite obviously had a lot to do with other players higher up qualifying elsewhere and therefore bumping up that player.

I think the top 5 works perfectly well as is.
Pardon me, but I think you'll find that's a shovel. See you next Tuesday!

Where did you see or hear this Nicole?
This is a first for me, the current system still stands and 5 people from all venues must qualify.

It says it on npl.com.au

Players who simply can't get enough poker have the chance to compete in the richest leader board competition in the country.

Each season the National Poker League gives away $5000 to the best of the best in the state.

The state leader board is all about consistency rewarding the top 10 averages across the state. To compete for your share of the $5000 bounty simply play 15 tournaments in any given season and you qualify for an average. Your average is then calculated from your best 15 games which means if you keep playing you will keep improving your average!

Finish in the top 50 on the state leader board and you also qualify for the state final. (Note: Qualification for the state final is taken from the state leader board first and the venue second providing an opportunity for the 6th-10th place finishers in a venue to qualify under the right circumstances).
The state leader board is split using the following break down:

1st - $2000
2nd - $1000
3rd - $500
4th - $400
5th - $300
6th - $250
7th - $200
8th - $150
9th - $100
10th - $100

Well what it says is already the case, the problem there is they've stated that it'd be 6th to 10th when we all know it could be 6th to 19th (or possibly even lower but what are the chances) :P

Hmm... changing the system would reduce the players State Finals receives - NPL are looking at cutting back numbers. Not saying I agree with this or anything, just musing.

I honestly believe Carlos has just made a presumption that noone beyond tenth could possibly qualify through a venue leaderboard or that if all five have qualified somewhere else then 6th-10th are pushed up: he hasn't taken into account if 1 - 10th have all qualified somewhere else when he wrote that article up.
