i have always used the terms "set" and "trips" interchangeably, but by the sounds of it, they are different.
Most definitely different!
They are both three of a kind, which you can use for either (obviously).
But a set is when you have two in your hand, and one on the board, where as trips is when you have one in your hand and two on the board.
Big difference in how you would play a set, as opposed to trips.
